The blood moon was one of the most cryptic and eerie features inThe Legend Of Zelda: Breath Of The Wild. While the mechanics to themysterious red moonwere somewhat complicated and hard to exploit in the first game, summoning a blood moon becomes much simpler in its sequel,TheLegend Of Zelda: Tears Of The Kingdom.
InThe Legend Of Zelda: Tears Of The Kingdom, the blood moon serves the same purpose that it did inBreath Of The Wild. When the blood moon rises, all enemies that have been slain since the last blood moon (or the start of the game, if the player hasn’t encountered a blood moon yet) will respawn, except for bosses and some regular enemies may be nearby at the time of the blood moon. This includes mini-boss enemies, such as Lynels and Constructs. This means they can be killed over and over after the blood moon has them respawned tofarm valuable materials and rupees. Summoning the blood moon will also reset dropped weapons, materials, and ore, as well as guarantee a successful cooking performance.

7 Days of In-Game Playtime
One of the more well-known methods of summoning a blood moon is the hardest to exploit because it relies on waiting. The blood moon will automatically trigger after seven in-game days, at 12:00 AM.This in-game time doesn’t include time spent on menus or resting at the campfire, so unfortunately there is no easy way for players to speed up the time it takes to naturally summon the blood moon.

Since one hour in-game equates to one minute in real time, it should only take players abouttwo hours and forty-eight minutesof real-time gameplay to naturally encounter a blood moon. This process is endless, meaning that the cycle will repeat after every two hours and forty-eight minutes that the player spends inTears Of The Kingdom.
Even though players can’t speed up this process naturally by resting at the campsite or idling in the menu, this method of summoning the blood moon is by far the most consistent and reliable.
Low Game Memory
Contrary to the previous method, this one can be triggered almost anytime if the player exploits the mechanical purpose of the blood moon. The blood moon game mechanic was created so that players who tear through the seemingly endless world ofTears Of The Kingdomlooking for enemies and scouring for materials won’t just “run out” ofitems to gatherand threats waiting for them. The blood moon keeps all the slain enemies and uncovered items in a constant respawn cycle so the game can remain endless, to an extent.

If players go out of their way to eradicate all the enemies and items in one or two particular areas, the game will summon a blood moon to replenish what was wiped out. This method definitely isn’t for early-game players, as itrequires powerful weaponsto slay enemies and access to the Ultrahand ability so that the player can rig upself-propelled vehicles to carry them quickly across the area.
