As a testament toRed Dead Redemption’s popularity, as soon as it was added to the Xbox One backward compatibility lineup, itssales increased by nearly 6,000 percent, showing gamers are as hyped as ever to see where Rockstar takes the franchise next.
4Sunset Riders
A side-scrolling run and gun co-op game from Konami,Sunset Riderswas a popular fixture in arcades in the early 90s, and also earned recognition for its Sega Genesis and Super Nintendo console ports.Sunset Riderswas notable for its sense of humor and fast-paced gameplay, as well as its intense outlaw boss battles that capped off each stage.

1Wild Gunman
One of the earliest western video games wasWild Gunmanfrom famous developer Gunpei Yokoi. It originally appeared in arcades in the 1970s, but didn’t hit the peak of its popularity until it launched for the NES a decade later as one of the few games to utilize the NES Zapper peripheral.Wild Gunmancontinues to be acknowledged by Nintendo to this day, as it was released forWii U Virtual Consolein 2015 and elements of the light gun shooter were added to theSuper Smash Bros.games.
FromCall of Juarez: GunslingertoWild Gunman, we believe these are the best western titles in video gaming so far. However, with aRed Dead Redemptionfollowup said to be in the works, the best could be yet to come for video games set in the Old West.
