The Rogue Prince of Persiadoes not like to hold your hands, which is perfectly normal for roguelike games. However, various aspects could be better explained for the comfort of new players. Medallions, for one, are like power-ups that can be slotted to unlock new abilities and passives. They prove valuable indefeating the first boss, for example, and make some of the other enemies easier to put down. To make the most out of your medallions, though, you need to know how to fully upgrade them.
The Rogue Prince of Persiauses a rather convoluted progression system for medallions. Upgrading them relies on a bit of luck, but it is not entirely like throwing dice. Here is what you need to know about upgrading medallions, their slots, and more in the game.

How Medallions & Slots Work Together In The Rogue Prince Of Persia
Every medallion can be placed in one of four slots, but that does not mean you should place them at random. Every time youget new medallions inThe Rogue Prince of Persia, you must choose the best slots for them for two main reasons.
Firstly, you upgrade medallion slots, not the medallions themselves inThe Rogue Prince of Persia. Secondly, each medallion can upgrade different slots depending on its unique properties.

Hence, it becomes a little complicated because you must upgrade a slot in advance for a medallion that you may (or may not) find as loot during your campaign tofree Shahin inThe Rogue Prince of Persiaand stop the Hun invasion.
The best way to explain how medallions and slots work would be to take an example. Bloody Spoils is one of thebest medallions inThe Rogue Prince of Persia. Here are a few things to note before deciding where to place it. This should help with any medallion you come across in the game.

#1: Slots That Will Be Upgraded
Thetwo green arrowsunder the medallion name show which slots will be upgraded. Here, Bloody Spoils will upgrade the two immediate slots left of where it is placed.
#2: Medallion Abilities & Bonuses
The single dot will always be active, even when the medallion is not upgraded. The stars (diamonds) reveal how many times the medallion needs to be upgraded to unlock its bonuses. In this case, upgrading Bloody Spoils once gives you 5 additional gold coins when an enemy is killed. Upgrading it twice adds another 5 gold coins for a total of 15 gold coins per kill.
#3: Slot Statuses & Impact
Hovering a new medallion over each slot shows how it will impact the other medallions. The large, green stars confirm that the first two slots will be upgraded once when Bloody Spoils is placed in the third slot. Thesmall, yellow starmeans that the second slot is already upgraded once due to the Slicing Vault medallion in the first slot. Hence, placing Bloody Spoils in the third slot lets you upgrade the second slot twice.
The Rogue Prince of Persiaplans to roll out a number of improvements as part of itsearly access roadmap. Improving the rather confusing interface of the medallion and slot system would greatly help players.

Taking another example above, placing theSleight of Poisonmedallion in the second slot will upgrade both the first and third slots, as denoted by the large arrows. The second slot is already upgraded once, so slotting Sleight of Poison here will unlock its second passive to restore 30 energy points for every hit landed on an enemy from behind.
Notice that the first- and third-slot medallions have upgraded the second and fourth slots by one star respectively, as shown by the smaller arrows. If the third-slot medallion had upgraded the second slot instead, Sleight of Poison would still be unable to unlock its final tier. This is becauseSleight of Poison requires a level 3 upgrade slot, not level 2.

How To Upgrade Medallions In The Rogue Prince Of Persia
There isno guarantee of what medallions you will findin each run. Sincethey drop randomlyfrom the loot pool, your only choice is to plan ahead from the moment you find your first medallion. Your goal should be to upgrade either the second or third slot by at least two stars inThe Rogue Prince of Persia. This gives you room to adjust other medallions. Here is an excellent example to show how to do that.
The image above shows three medallions fully upgraded in the first three slots.
Medallions can be replaced with new ones you find during the run. They, however, will destroy the original medallion and remove their bonuses as well as any slot upgrades.
You are likely to find the medallion system a bit frustrating, but that ishow roguelike games play. Each run is supposed to be different. The Rogue Prince of Persiawill eventually add a skill tree of sorts down the road, which might make the game a bit easier. In the meanwhile, though, medallions are your best bet tofarm gold and spirit glimmer to craft weapons.
