The MCU is one of the biggest movie franchises of all time, worth billions of dollars, and has pioneered the way for other live-action superhero movies. Its vast universe has witnessed multiplethreats from intergalactic villains, but none stand out more than Thanos, who is considered to be the most formidable adversary the Avengers have ever fought. The supervillain managed to wipe out half the universe’s population thanks to the infinity stones, but to wield the powerful stones, he needed the Infinity Gauntlet.
The Infinity Gauntlet was a weapon specially crafted by a dwarf afterThanos' request in Avengers: Infinity War. Interestingly, this isn’t the first time the gauntlet has appeared in the MCU. The gauntlet is seen in Odin’s treasure room earlier and is said to be an old relic. How did Odin even possess the gauntlet long before it was made?

What Is The Infinity Gauntlet
The Infinity Stones are six powerful gems, each with its distinctive abilities, capable of manipulating time, space, and much more. Some of these stones are witnessed throughout the early Marvel movies. However, it isn’t untilAvengers: Infinity Warthat their true powers are revealed.Thanos, a titan and the main antagonistin Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame, seeks out all these stones to gain god-like powers, enough to wipe out 50% of the population, which is his main goal.
The six Infinity Stones are immensely powerful, especially the Power Stone. To combat this, Thanos tasks Eitri to build the Infinity Gauntlet, which helps users control the power of the stones. The Infinity Gauntlet is made with uru, one of the most powerful metals in the universe, and was even used in the making of Thor’s Stormbreaker.

Once equipped with all the stones, the Infinity Gauntlet grants the user the power to do anything they desire, even shape reality. The equipped Infinity Gauntlet is so powerful that it takes a formidable user to harness it, and it even takes a toll on them even on the powerful titan, Thanos. The Infinity Gauntlet was made quite recently, but that’s not the only time we see the gauntlet. The gauntlet is first shown in the first Thor movie and then later inThor: Ragnarok. Aside from Thor movies, Thanos is also shown to equip the Gauntlet at the end ofAvengers: Age of Ultron.
Infinity Gauntlet Plothole Explained
Thor: Ragnaroksees the returnof Hela, Thor’s long-lost half-sister who was imprisoned for thousands of years. After Odin’s death and her successful takeover of Asgard,we see Hela inOdin’s treasure room stumbling upon some of his relics. However, the most notable ones are the Tesseract, an Infinity Stone, and the Infinity Gauntlet itself. It would make no sense for the Infinity Gauntlet to have been in Odin’s possession for thousands of years, given that we see it being made inAvengers: Endgame. Surprisingly, Hela knocks the gauntlet off, stating that it is a fake.
Furthermore, the Infinity Gauntlet shown in the sequence is a left-handed one, whereas the one worn by Thanos is right-handed. This suggests that even though it’s a replica, the real one might have existed at some point, and Odin may have replaced it with a fake after he grew old and turned to the way of peace. However, before Thanos, no one has ever wielded all the Infinity Stones at once, so the existence of the gauntlet might be confusing. One could think that it was merely there for Odin to showcase his power, ensuring the people of Asgard wouldn’t worry about it being used against them.
Nevertheless, we see the Infinity Gauntlet once again inAvengers: Age of Ultron. In a post-credit scene, Thanos makes a cameo and is seen wearing the glove, but just like the one in Odin’s vault, the gauntlet is confirmed to be fake by the show writers. Thanos only wore that glove to practice whenever he needed a real one.
All the Infinity Gauntlets shown beforeAvengers: Infinity Warswere fake but the fact that both Thanos and Odin possess fake gauntlets implies that a real one may have existed long ago, and Thanos' new gauntlet was modeled after it. Thanos then fulfills his goal of wiping out half the population anduses the stones to destroythe stones leaving the Gauntlet useless.
