Summary
ASupergirl: Woman of Tomorrowcast rumor suggested an actor was being sought for a classic Superman character. However, DCU mastermind James Gunn has officially debunked this particular rumor.
Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrowis expected to begin filming this fall and the casting process is seemingly underway to fill out the rolesjoining Milly Alcock’s Kara Zor-El. A recent rumor claimed DC Studios was searching for an actor to voice Krypto the Superdog, Superman’s faithful dog and later a loyal companion to Supergirl. However, the report is seemingly incorrect.

WhileKrypto the Superdog generally doesn’t speak in the comics, casting an actor to voice the canine is not far-fetched. In the comics, Krypto’s inner monologue is occasionally provided to readers and many animated depictions of the character give him the ability to speak with other animals. Humans typically only interpret his barks as standard dog sounds, but his animal companions can converse with and comprehend him. This was notably depicted in the animated DC movie titledDC League of Super-Petsin which Krypto was voiced by Dwayne Johnson, who co-starred with Kate McKinnon, John Krasinski, Vanessa Bayer, Natasha Lyonne, Diego Luna, Thomas Middleditch, and more.
Still, theSupergirl: Woman of Tomorrowcast rumor may have caught fans off guard because this is not the first hint at Krypto’s role in the new DC Universe (DCU). Gunn has suggestedKrypto will appear in his newSupermanmovieby sharing photos with subtle hints of the canine’s involvement. However, there has been no mention of a voice actor being sought for Krypto in Gunn’s Superman movie, so reports of a talking version of the Superdog inSupergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, which will be released after Krpyto has presumably debuted inSuperman, were curious to some fans considering there was no indication that he could speak thus far.

Regardless, theSupergirl: Woman of Tomorrowcast rumor is allegedly false, according to Gunn. While Gunn hasn’t addressed every DCU cast rumor, he has seemingly attempted to address the reports that are outright false or incorrect. Generously, Gunn has mentioned that he doesn’t know if certain casting rumors are intentionally incorrect to generate views or if the scoopers in question were provided inaccurate information. So, if any fans were hoping to hear what Krypto the Superdog had to say, they may want to temper their expectations.
Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrowis scheduled to be released in theaters on Jun 17, 2025.
