Spy Classroom’slatest episode has provided yet another insight into the character of one of the member’s of Team Lamplight. Especially considering the last episode’s understanding and relatively well-executed themes surrounding teamwork as well as understanding the characters and each of their personalities. However, episode 6 as a whole feels much like another character-centric episode meant for the audience to learn and understand about one of the main characters. While episode 6 doesn’t directly follow episode 5’s ending scenes, it does allow for an interesting perspective surrounding Sybilla, one of the members of Team Lamplight who up until this point didn’t get too much time for a personal look at her character or understanding. Of course, what exactly happens in this episode is an interesting question to be answered at the moment.
Spy Classroom’slatest three episodes have been focused primarily on Team Lamplight’s days before the Impossible Mission, allowing the audience some time to get to know the team personally and understand them on a more personal level after the hight-stakes from the third episode, the action provided against the enemy, and the twists and clever planning thatthey needed to hook the audience in. Of course, the first of these episodes focused on the character of Erna, along with some aspects of her past. The next episode focused on Team Lamplight as a whole, learning about their dynamic and relation to one another. However, the latest episode, titled “FILE: PANDEMONIUM SYBILLA”, focuses immensely on her point of view as well as her own motivations for wanting to be a Spy.

A Look Into Family
As usual, the episode starts off with yet another attempt at catching Klaus off guard, with Lily having seemingly been used as a makeshift gas bomb. Of course, Lily is still alive and lightheartedly annoyed at how she was used like that by her team. The general conversation after became about the difficulty of trying to surround Klaus, and soon after thatwe follow a time skipthrough the point of view of Sybilla, noting a picture of her and two other younger siblings in a frame. This reveals her fondness and a family that she has, bringing also into question the topic of families for the other team members.
However, Lily ends up snooping in at the last second catching Sybilla off guard and in a bit of a mildly flustered state. This doesn’t end poorly, as it is a moment which reveals Sybilla and Lily’s bond deepening despite their personalities often clashing at times. Some light teasing from Lily and a reaffirmed determination from Sybilla, the episode continues on towards the next day.

An Attempt Turned Into a Field Day
With some information gathering from Annette, another vital member of Team Lamplight, the team finds out about Klaus’s movements into the town. This time, Sybillaoffers to be the sole memberto steal what could be a secret envelope from Klaus. Since Sybilla has been stated to be important for them to be the teams ‘thief’ of sorts, she’s chosen to tail Klaus. However, most notably she’s given a lunchbox as a meal for the end of the day by one of her team members.
While following Klaus so far seems like a success, and Sybilla manages to keep Lily away from jeopardizing the mission; complications arise. When a little girl arrives offering Klaus some refreshment, it is then quickly revealed she attempted to steal from Klaus. However, before she had a chance, Sybilla managed to intercept and prevent that. Soon after, the girl tries to save face, albeit too genuinely as she was scared at first. Even more so when Sybilla raised a hand to assure her, although the reason why is yet to be seen.

With some help from Klaus, they managed to calm down the young girl, although Klaus does have choice of constructive advice for Sybilla. After that, Sybilla made up for the sudden intrusion by drinking a refreshment from the young girl, who reveals her name to be Fine. After asimple but lighthearted scenebetween Klaus and Sybilla, Fine compared the two to being similar to her ‘papa’. However, the choice of words that followed are concerning and hint at a darker aspect of life.
The Confrontation
Soon, after arriving at a sketchy part of town, Sybilla falls to her knees in weakness, and has a few possessions stolen from Fine. Klaus reveals that she was poisoned, but provides the pills necessary to help Sybilla recover quickly. Thanks to a tracking device, Klaus and Sybilla arrive at a shedwhich reveals the truth. The main reason Klaus had been out that day was to catch wind of a low-life using orphans to commit crimes, and Fine had been caught up in the horrid situation.
Witnessing and catching the criminal off guard, Sybilla and Klaus both confront him. However, Sybilla takes point afterhaving slowly revealed her pastthrough the confrontation. This reveals to the audience that she too has felt the pain that the orphans have felt for so many years. Aside from the implications, Sybilla focuses on her agility and eventually succeeds in removing a firearm from the criminal. Despite certain complications arising, Klaus manages to assuage them with thorough planning and taking out the criminal in one swoop.

After the confrontation, Sybilla and Klaus have a brief heart-to-heart by the bay. With Sybilla’s past having been revealed in pieces, and with Klaus’s words of encouragement and surprising teaching, Sybilla grows to have a newfound respect for Klaus. Prior to this situation, Sybilla has been consistently rather critical of Klaus' teaching methods, although with thisentire episode we have seen glimpsesof her heart, empathy, and determination. However, we have also seen some personal aspects to her character that allow the audience to understand her motivations.
All in All,Spy Classroomhas managed to provide another episode with good pacing and a focus on expanding and developing its main cast in meaningful ways. With aproper focus and an understandingof episodic structure, Sybilla’s character was portrayed excellently as a result.Spy Classroom’snext episode isn’t so clearly revealed or hinted at, but with only 6 more episodes to go during the first season; the fans have much to look forward to.
