Tetris 99is a fantastic puzzle game that can be played on the Switch. The twist on the classic game pits one player against 98 others and has proven to be a popular addition to Nintendo’s Online subscription. The game has also been a host of some wonderful crossover aesthetics, providing players the chance to earn themes inTetris 99’s Maximus Cup events. This weekend’s latest event will give players the chance to earn an in-game theme based on the recently releasedThe Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword HD.

Skyward Sword HDwas released in celebration ofthe 35th anniversary of theZeldaseries. To continue the festivities, fans can earn this theme through an event inTetris 99. The event will be running during the weekend, ending on August 9 at 11:59 PT.

The theme itself gives Tetris 99 newSkyward Sword-based aesthetics, from the background art to the music as well as Tetrimino blocks. This is even evident in the small details used to make it a complete overhaul. This includes a voice clip ofLink’s companion Fibefore the countdown starts and other sound effects fromSkyward Sword.

Other key elements that tie the theme together include heart containers representing the badges that the player earns during the match to themes changing as the player climbs to the higher ranks of the battle. To earn this theme, players need to earn at least 100 points during the event, which will be unlocked automatically once the required total has been met.

Tetris 99comes free with a subscription toNintendo Switch Online, along with other games. One of these includes another battle royale game in Nintendo’s library,Pac-Man 99, which is also developed by the same team that madeTetris 99. There was also aMario-themed battle royale calledMario 35last year, but that service was shut down once the anniversary was over.

WhileThe Legend of Zelda’s anniversary has been quieter than mostthis year, fans are still celebrating in their own way, withSkyward Sword HDbeing one of them. As the sequel toBreath of the Wildis looking to be released next year, havingSkyward Swordbe released on the Switch allows players to celebrate an integral game to theZeldalibrary. Giving the game a crossover tie-in withTetris 99also will give some moreZelda-esque flair to the game, as there has only been one other theme that can be bought in-game through the use of tickets.

Tetris 99is available for the Nintendo Switch.
