For the first time,The Elder Scrolls: Skyrimwill have an official tie-in with Nintendo’s own tale of swordplay and magic,TheLegend of Zelda. Players who pick upSkyrimfor the Nintendo Switch will be able to unlock and equip theirSkyrimcharacter with Link’s equipment fromThe Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild.

Officially announced duringBethesda’s E3 press conference, the Nintendo Switch version ofThe Elder Scrolls: Skyrimis officially on its way. That trailer revealed that like mostSwitchgames, Skyrim will support Amiibo functionality. In it, the player is seen tapping the controller with aBreath of the WildLink Amiibo, after which a treasure chest appears in-game alongside a familiar treasure tune fromThe Legend of Zelda. The player is next seen wearing Link’s tunic fromBreath of the Wild, and wielding the Master Sword and Hylian Shield.

In addition to Link, the Nintendo Switch version of Skyrim will evidently support many more Amiibo. Bethesda lists the game as being compatible with other Amiibo fromThe Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, as well asSuper Smash Bros. and the 8-bitLegend of Zelda30th Anniversary Amiibo. It’s unclear if only the Link Amiibo from each set will be compatible with the game, or if players can expect to unlock loot connected to all of their favorite fighters and game series that received Amiibo inSuper Smash Bros.

BringingThe Legend of Zeldaofficially intoSkyrimin this small way is bound to delightZeldaandSkyrimfans alike, especially since the latest iteration ofThe Legend of Zeldawas built upon a similarlymassive open world. It’s not the first time that these iconic items have made it intoSkyrim, of course. Courtesy of the extraordinarily popular modding scene for Bethesda’s open world games, Link, Zelda, and a myriad of other characters and items from third party properties have been available to be added unofficially intoSkyrimover the years. However, it’s pretty special for Nintendo and Bethesda to work together to make it an official addition, especially since the Switch version ofSkyrimmay not include mod support.

The Elder Scrolls: Skyrimis set to release for the Nintendo Switch during the Holiday season of 2017.
