After yesterday’s Sony State of Play revealed thatResident Evil 3’sremake was real andincluded alongside the upcoming release ofProject Resistance,the internet has been ablaze with discussion over the highly anticipated next game in the franchise. Fans had a lot to speculate over as well, with tons of new details emerging about the game following the release of its debut trailer. One such detail came as something of a shock toResident Evilfans, as they discovered a team working on the game is headed by a familiar icon in the industry.
That icon is none other than Tatsuya Minami, former CEO of Platinum Games and a previous veteran of Capcom’s development team. Minami originally joined Capcom back in 1987, working on such iconic titles asDevil May Cry,Mega Man, and, appropriately, the originalResident Evil. He parted ways with Capcom to pioneer Platinum Games back in 2006, but eventually left the thriving studio to form his own development team known as M-Two Inc, which is comprised of former Capcom and Platinum talent.

M-Two Inc was said to be somehow aligned with Capcom, and as we can see, it seems the studio’s first big title will be working on the remake ofResident Evil 3.No doubt Minami’s years of experience in game development and firsthand knowledge of Capcom’s classic IP’s will be invaluable in resurrectingResident Evil 3for modern audiences, especially as he worked on some of the earliest titles in the franchise’s long lineage.
If anyone needs any more evidence in favor of Minami’s exceptional talent for cultivating brilliant video games, they need only look at the success of Platinum Games as a studio. FromBayonettaandMetal Gear Rising: RevengeancetoNier AutomataandVanquish,Platinum Gameshas released an astounding number of exceptional games since it was introduced to the world back in 2006. Minami and the talent that followed him from Platinum Games are clearly capable of developing astounding blockbuster titles, and it’s hard to imagineResident Evil 3won’t follow that same benchmark.
That much is evident from all we’ve learned in the last twenty-four hours alone, with newResident Evil 3gameplay showing that it will channel the same over-the-shoulder brilliance that made this year’sResident Evil 2remake so successful. According to adev diary published yesterday,Resident Evil 3will also focus more on action than the studio’s last remake, which makes sense when considering how high octane its first trailer appeared to be. With Platinum releasing a number of exceptional action games over recent years, it appears Minami and M-Two Inc’s presence will be an essential aid in delivering theResident Evilexperiences fans are clamoring for.
