Ubisoft seems to be taking a leaf out of Blizzard’s book. as the company begins to issue permanent bans to people found cheating, after just one offense.
It’s good news for fans of fair play, as Ubisoft has updated its code of conduct forTom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Siegeto allow for permanent bans of players who are found to be cheating.
The developer announced that it intends to ban players after their first offense of breaking the rules through cheating or hacking. Anyone found to be running modified or “otherwise unauthorized” versions ofRainbow Six Siege’s game client that provide any sort of unfair advantage (such as wall hacks or aim hacks) or cause detriment to other players' experiences will be on the receiving end of this quick-ban treatment.
“The presence of cheating in the game is something we take very seriously, and is a priority on the development team,” announced Ubisoft on theRainbow Sixblog page. “This update is one step among many that we are working on to better engage with the community on this issue.”
In much the same method that Blizzard has implemented withOverwatch, cheaters will bebanned permanentlyafter evidence of cheating is found. Since the shooter’s release almost two weeks ago, over 1,500 people have reportedly been locked out of the game forever.Rainbow Six’s blog page admits that it will sometimes be difficult for players to distinguish cheaters from good players, especially in a game where shooting through destructible walls is commonplace, but Ubisoft’s FairFight server-side anti-cheat engine should help to identify the guilty party.
Besides this, the developer claims that it is currently testing several client-side options to be applied in the future, which should help make the game a more even experience for all players. In the mean time, if any users encounter a player they believe to be cheating, they should use the report button or contact Ubisoft support directly with their details so that the development team can investigate.
