It appears thatApex Legendscould be one of the next titles to be getting a new-gen upgrade. While there hasn’t been any kind of official announcement, it appears that a PS5 version ofApex Legendswas spotted on the PSN database.

Since both the PS5 and Xbox Series X/S launched,Apex Legendsplayers have had to settle for playing PlayStation 4 and Xbox One versions of the game despite one of its main competitors inFortnitegetting a PS5 and Xbox Series X upgradenot that long after the new consoles launched. Now the popular Electronic Arts shooter could be joining the ranks of those that offer a souped-up version of the original game.

According to a fairly reliable Twitter account known as PlayStation Game Size that spends most of its time tracking Playstation patches, aPS5 version ofApex Legendswas recently added to the PlayStation Network’s main database. The social media account claims that the download for this new-gen patch is going to be quite substantial (80GB+ without any other patches).

Not long after the report of the PS5 version of the game began swirling around on social media, industry analyst MauroNL tweeted out his version of a confirmation, saying that the update should be out “real soon.” He promised that this version ofApex Legendswould have the 120fps modethat had been mentioned by Respawn developers last winter. MauroNL also said the upcoming version would have boosted resolution and higher graphic fidelity across the board.

That Respawn has beenplanning a PS5 and Xbox Series X/S versionofApex Legendsisn’t a secret. In an August Reddit AMA, developers confirmed it was in the works and added that they were looking forward to seeing it in action. However, while they confirmed the upgrade was on the way, there hadn’t been any kind of data announced as to when it might launch. The developers have also been pretty quiet on that front since the summer confirmation.

While the PS5 version ofApex Legendsis the only one that has reportedly been spotted out in the wild, the existence of that version almost certainly means that the Xbox Series X/S upgrade will be coming at the same time. For its part, Respawn has not confirmed that this new version of the game’s launch is imminent and the company did just release a minor patch on Thursday. However, with rumors swirling across social media, if the release is soon, it stands to reason the company will make it official in short order.

Apex Legendsis available now on PC, PS4, Switch, and Xbox One.
