As of right now, the remake ofDemon’s Soulsremains one of the most popular PS5 launch titles. A point of contention amongst fans ofDemon’s Soulshas been a lack of PS4 support, especially considering it looks as though the PS4 could potentially run the game. Although, new evidence shows that the remake might be getting a PS4 port after all.
In the past, Sony has stated numerous times that despite the release of the PS5, Sony would continue tosupport the PS4 well into 2022and potentially even further. However, console exclusivity is a large incentive in terms of selling additional units, so in that sense, it’s fair to have games likeDemon’s Soulsremain PS5 exclusive. Though, according to new information, that might be subject to change.

A Twitter account by the name of PlayStation Game Size reported that there is apparently aPS4 version ofDemon’s Soulsin the PlayStation database. If a PS4 version of the game exists within the database, then it’s certainly possible that a PS4 version of theDemon’s Soulsremake could be released. Though, just because it’s in the database doesn’t mean anything is set in stone.
As PlayStation Game Size mentions in the Tweet, this version could simply be a smaller build available to developers as a way to playtest the game. Given all of the complications that arose last year withCOVID-19, numerous developers likely had to playtestDemon’s Soulsat home using either a PS4 or an early PS5 unit. Then again, if there is a PS4 port ofDemon’s Soulsin the PlayStation database and it is assumedly in working order, then there doesn’t seem to be any reason why Sony wouldn’t want to release a PS4 version of the game.
Within the last couple of months, plenty of games that were originally reported to be next-gen exclusives turned out to have cross-gen support, such asGod of War: RagnarokandResident Evil Village. It’s possible that in the months to come, Sony could release a PS4 port ofDemon’s Souls.
As it stands right now, it’s not exactly impossible forDemon’s Soulsto take the cross-gen route in the future, but it’s too early to tell. For a game as visually stunning asDemon’s Souls, a PS4 version would likely have to sacrifice a lot in terms of visual quality and technical performance. Same could also be said ofRatchet and Clank: Rift Apart.
