In the latest quarterly financial results to come from Nintendo, it was revealed that the Switch has had incredible success in the market, having sold a total of 79.87 million units so far, surpassing the lifetime sales of the Nintendo 3DS, which has almost sold 76 million units since its launch back in 2011. Nintendo also released updated sales information for many Switch titles, such asPokemon SwordandPokemon Shield,Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, andThe Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild.

Pokemon SwordandShieldare the latest mainline entries in the long-runningPokemonfranchise,introducing Poke-fans to the 8th generation ofPokemon. The pair of games allows trainers to explore the Galar region and collect/raise dozens of brand-new pocket monsters. There was also the introduction of a new feature that lets trainers' Pokemon become a bigger size during key moments, like in gym battles for example. These transformations are called Dynamaxing and can even give certain Pokemon a new look if they’re capable of Gigantamaxing, another new element ofSwordandShield.

And according to the latest financial results from Nintendo, it seems that these pair of games have managed to become the third highest-sellingPokemongames of all time, sitting right behindPokemon RedandBlue,andPokemon GoldandSilver. The title has recently hit over 20 million units in sales and is currently the fifth best-selling Switch game of all time.

As for the other Switch games that are above the recent mainlinePokemontitles in terms of sales,The Legend of Zelda:Breath of the Wildtakes the 4th spot with 21.45 million copies sold;Super Smash Bros. Ultimatesits at 22.85 million;Animal Crossing: New Horizonsis at a whopping 31.18 million sold in less than a year since release; and thenMario Kart 8 Deluxetakes the top spot as the best-selling Switch title of all time with 33.41 million units sold. It’s worth noting thatMario Kart 8 Deluxeis simply an upgraded port of the 2014 Wii U title.

The Pokemon Company has yet to reveal what’s coming next forPokemonfans, but since this year marks the 25th anniversary of the series, there’s soon to be announcements related to the franchise. So far, The Pokemon Company has revealed that there’s acollaboration with musician Katy Perry happening soon, and other musical guests will be revealed later as well.

Although it hasn’t been officially confirmed yet, it has been heavily rumored thatnew remakes ofPokemon DiamondandPokemon Pearlwill be announced and possibly released this year.
