Summary
Though he has only recently joined the fight inOverwatch 2, Mauga is a hero that fans had been aware of for years prior to his appearance as a playable character, and some of his early concepts still have the potential to appear in the game as skins for the Samoan tank hero. Though Mauga still hasn’t got all that many cosmetics available to him inOverwatch 2due to his relatively recent addition to the game, many fans feel this is all the more reason Blizzard should consider giving him some new outfits based on the character’s popular early concepts.
Themost recent season ofOverwatch 2has been a big one, and though it has brought some significant changes to battle pass rewards and mythic skin availability, it has also introduced the game’s Mirrorwatch event along with plenty of fantastic skins to complement it. These Mirrorwatch skins are a little different to those that fans may be used to, as they dig into the idea of an alternate reality where some ofOverwatch 2’s most popular characters see their allegiances and backgrounds switched up significantly. For example, Mirrorwatch skins for Reinhardt and Brigitte show the characters off as villainous members of the Talon organization, and characters such as Widowmaker and Doomfist as Overwatch agents instead.

WhileOverwatch 2’s current season has proven to be a big one for cosmetics, some of the latest additions to the game’s hero roster are still lacking in skins. Mauga, the newest tank hero that was added to the game in Season 8, makes for a pretty notable example, and fans have recently discussed the possibility of Blizzard introducing new skins for the character based on some of his early concept art. This artwork, which generated widespread excitement for Mauga’s introduction as a playable character for yearsprior to his release inOverwatch 2, features the character wearing a red tropical shirt and sunglasses. It seems quite likely this outfit could come to the game eventually, even if as a timed exclusive Summer Games skin.
Overwatch 2’s Latest Season is a Double-Edged Sword When It Comes to Skins
Fans have noticed that newerOverwatch 2skins have been releasing with far fewer cosmetics than they used to, and the game’s most recent hero, Venture, is a perfect example of this. Introduced as the game’s latest damage hero this season,Venture came toOverwatch 2without any legendary skinsimmediately available, and is the first new hero in the game’s history who didn’t get any new skins in the battle pass accompanying their debut season.
Mauga remains in a similar position, as he hasn’t gotten much love over the last couple of seasons either. The tank hero has proven to be a particularlycontroversial addition toOverwatch 2’s hero rosterin terms of his strength and abilities, and struggles to maintain the same level of popularity as the game’s other tank options due to constant balance changes, but he still deserves better in terms of skins.
