Overwatch 2just confirmed players can expect a Sombra rework sometime after Season 6. Though that may not be as soon as some players would hope, they can at least expectOverwatch 2to change the controversial DPS hero before the end of the year.

Previously,Overwatch 2lead hero designer Alec Dawsonconfirmed a Sombra rework was on the way. After the rework, players can expect the hero to be way more lethal, but at the cost of less robust escape options.

Now, executive producer Jared Neuss has given a more concrete timetable on when theOverwatch 2hero could receive her rework. During an interview withOverwatch 2content creator Emongg on Twitch, he confirmed the changes were in progress. However, he also said they would not be in Season 5, and probably not by the start of Season 6 either. This means there is a good chance the changes to Sombra will come before or alongsideRoadhog’s rework inOverwatch 2Season 7.

Since her introduction early on inOverwatch 1’s lifespan, Sombra has been a contentious hero. Besides her ultimate, Sombra does not have a reliable source of damage outside her primary fire. However, her ability to hack enemies to make them unable to use abilities, and slip awayacross the entireOverwatch 2mapwith the press of a button, makes her a nuisance to play against. Even so, balance changes over the years have made it hard for Sombra to win a game for her team unless she’s used by expert players.

Overwatch 2is about halfway through its cycle for Season 5. In about a month,Overwatch 2will begin Season 6, with Season 7 being roughly two months after. That means players can hopefully expect Season 7–and the Sombra rework–no later than early October.

In the meantime,Overwatch 2is gearing up for Season 6. Dubbed Invasion, Season 6 is thelargest seasonal content update inOverwatchhistory. The game is receiving the Flashpoint PvP game mode, a new healer hero, and the long-awaited PvE modes.

That said, players still have over a month to enjoy Season 5. The high-fantasy theme has given players some charming cosmetics to collect, as well as a fun story to unlock through the Battle Pass. Additionally, several new game modes, including theupcomingOverwatch 2Mischief and Magicscavenger hunt mode, will make sure players have plenty to do in the near future.

Overwatch 2is available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
