Unlike other game modes,Hardcore servers inWorld of WarcraftClassicfeature permanent deathas a main feature. Even one singular, unfortunate end by way of a wild beast or by gravity can end a Hardcore run. However, Blizzard has stated that dead Hardcore characters can continue their journey with free character transfers to Classic Era servers that function similarly to howWorld of Warcraft was from 2004 to 2006. However, one player was the first to brave the danger and reach the pinnacle ofWorld of Warcraft ClassicHardcore.

AWorld of Warcraft Classicplayer named Vitochie of the Defias Pillager server earned the honor of being the first to reach level 60 in Hardcore mode. Vitochie recorded the moment on their Twitch stream, and a clip of their last level-up went viral with over 54K views. For their Hardcore run, Vitochiechose to play as a Gnome Magewith Frost as their specialization of choice. While most Hardcore players have opted to use builds to enhance their single-target damage over their area-of-effect (AoE) capabilities, Vitochie went with a riskier build that enhanced the damage to their Blizzard spell and allowed them to take down multiple enemies in a quicker manner and earn experience points slightly faster.
However, pulling multiple enemies inWorld of Warcraftcarries the palpable risk of death, in bothClassicandDragonflight. But thanks to some planning, Vitochie was not among the first 100K characters thatdied within the first day of HardcoreClassic. Vitochie mostly stuck to the open world and used a mix of spells such as Blizzard, Flamestrike, Arcane Explosion, Frost Nova, and Cone of Cold to slow enemies down while whittling their health bars to zero. The last level-up took place in Stormwind Keep, where a quest was completed that gave Vitochie the experience points they needed to reach level 60.
A crowd ofWoWplayers gathered and congratulated Vitochie both in the game and in their Twitch chat for their hard work and resourcefulness. With only four servers at launch, it remains to be seen how muchsupport HardcoreWorld of Warcraft Classicwill havein the long term.
