It doesn’t happen, but sometimes Sony uses itsPS Plusline-up to seemingly tease forthcoming announcements. For example, thePS Plusfree games for May 2021 includedBattlefield 5,and it wasn’t long after thatBattlefield 2042was announced. In September 2022, Sony includedNeed for Speed Heaton the service, and now a few months later,Need for Speed Unboundis actually out. One commonality between the two, aside from the inclusion and following sequel reveal, was the rampart rumors around each (thoughBattlefield 2042was calledBattlefield 6at the time).
Now, there aren’t many rumors regarding the latest title that could potentially follow suit here, but unlike those titles, it’s one that is always in conversation.PS Plus free games for December 2022includeMass Effect: Legendary Edition, Biomutant, andDivine Knockout, and it cannot be a coincidence thatMass Effectis on the service in December.

PS Plus, Mass Effect, and The Game Awards, Oh My
Everyone keeping up with it knowsMass Effect 4is in development, with BioWare having released a few teases over the last couple of years, so the context around its inclusion isn’t exactly the same. If this PS Plus pattern proves correct, it would also be the fastest inclusion-reveal title of the aforementioned pattern, but it’s hard not to connect the dots. December is an important month for BioWare, not least of all for December 4 which isDragon Age Day,but also because of The Game Awards. BioWare has attended the event every other year, usually withDragon Ageand/orMass Effectin tow, and this pattern points to a return this year.
BioWare broughtDragon Age: Dreadwolf’s first teaser to The Game Awards 2018, skipped 2019, broughtDragon Age: DreadwolfandMass Effect 4in 2020, skipped 2021, and now it’s 2022. Companies and people are not as formulaic as a service like PS Plus, but the pattern is clearly there for BioWare to be at The Game Awards. While aDragon Age: Dreadwolftrailer seems likely because it is in Alpha, a new teaser following up onMass Effect’s Mass Relay reconstruction video from N7 Dayis perfectly viable.
The Game Awards and BioWare have a history together. Sony has a pattern with PS Plus. For Sony’s PS Plus pattern to line up withMass Effectwhen it’s likely to be at The Game Awards cannot be a coincidence; after all, if a newMass Effecttrailer is there and it reveals the smallest detail like its official name (more than that is unlikely, givenDragon Age: Dreadwolfis further in development), fans are going to go flocking back to the Legendary Edition. And PS Plus will have it for those to access free, if they don’t own it on that platform. It would be a perfectly symbiotic relationship, but fans will find out for sure on December 8.
PS Plussubscribers get a handful of games every month.
