New World’s latest monthly update is capping off May with some significant additions and changes. Players interested in the PvP aspect ofNew Worldare being given a new way to enjoy PvP and more rewards for participating, along with a helpful amount of quality of life changes and bug fixes.
As the flagship MMORPG from the newly formed developer Amazon Games,New Worldwas one of the most highly anticipated releases of 2021.New Worldreceived mostly middling reviews, with players enjoying the magical Colonial-era setting and three-way faction conflict, but with little to do during the endgame and progression being a somewhat tedious grind. Since its launch,New Worldhas sought to address these issues with a series of major monthly updates bringing significant changes to many of its features and systems. New dungeons, weapons, and overhauls of the gathering and crafting system have all been implemented asAmazon Games continues its support forNew World.

A substantial addition arriving withNew World’s monthly updateis the new 3v3 PvP Arena system. The new small-scale PvP game mode has teams competing in a “best-of-5” contest with the first team to win three rounds claiming the prize. Arena rounds are two minutes long, and once the timer is up, a ring of fire will begin to envelop the arena forcing participants to engage. Players who have reached level 20 and up may queue for Arenas in the Modes menu, allowing players to participate on-demand from anywhere in the game.
To accompany the new Arena system isNew World’s PvP RewardsTrack, introducing the new currencies PvP XP and Azoth Salt. The currencies can be earned through most PvP-related activities, and bonus Azoth Salt is earned when gaining XP while flagged for PvP. PvP XP contributes toward climbing the rewards track for rewards such as gear, weapons, and emotes. At each milestone, one of three items may be purchased with earned Azoth Salt. The update also brings three new Expedition Mutators into the game, and players may also choose their preferred pronouns, which will now be properly referenced throughout the game’s systems.
Dozens of other minor changes were also made, from improving the homing of primary melee weapon attacks to adding the ability to dodge while rooted. Amazon Games has touched on many aspects of the game with this update besides adding new PvP content. With the game struggling to retain the massive player numbers it initially saw at launch, it’s a good sign forNew World’s future that it’s still getting major monthly updates despiteAmazon’sLost Arkstealing the spotlight.
