The Eternalsmight be one of the most curious pictures inMarvel’sfilm franchise. It raises a lot of questions and doesn’t provide a lot of answers in the almost three hours it is on screen. That might be on purpose. Some of these questions could get answered in the next phase of the MCU.

However, there are also things that just don’t add up aboutEternalsno matter how hard fans think. These puzzles go beyond theheroes avoiding Thanoswhich they sort of answer but mostly brush past. What other senseless things happen in the movie? Put on those spoiler goggles because things are about to get bumpy.
8Reusing The Name Deviants
It’s odd whenever a movie franchise reuses the same name for a proper noun. It can be confusing. Eternals has a great example of this as the monsters in the film are called Deviants. This is also the name given to characters that shouldn’t exist in time intheLokishow.
Maybe the two are more tied together than fans might think. As of right now it doesn’t seem like the case though but there is still time.Lokiis getting a second season.

7Imperfect Eternals
Eternals are seemingly supposed to be these perfect creatures created to stop Deviants. Why then do they have so many imperfections? Sprite asks this question in a roundabout way in the movie but it’s never truly answered. Why was she made to look like a child?
There is no reason for it. Also, why was Makkari created to be deaf? It’s greatthat the MCUfinally got a deaf hero on the list, but in terms of the lore, it doesn’t add up as to why a god-like being was made without hearing.

6Why Don’t Eternals Share Powers
There’s another flaw with Arishem’s design of its Eternals. Why are they given separate powers?Their power differencescould be answered in the comics. Most characters in the Marvel universe as a whole get their powers through genetics, accidents, mutations, gifts, and so on.

Arishem created the Eternals and can seemingly make powers up as it so chooses. If they were made to fight monsters then why not give everyone all of the powers? Ajak can heal which is a good support class, but it’s a bad one for combat. That’s just one example of how the Eternals’ powers are unbalanced.
5The Eternals’ Speech
There is one last small thing fans might have a problem with in regard to the design of the Eternals: their speech. Why are they speaking English when that language hasn’t even been invented yet in the time when the Eternals arrive on Earth? They are shown to speak other languages so it might be related to time. This probably isn’t an issuein the comics.
Perhaps the Eternals have not only seen many worlds been born and destroyed but reborn as well. They could see time play out in a loop. That’s the only way it makes sense for an American accent, a British accent, and an Irish accent to exist together in ancient Mesopotamia.

4Ikaris’ Elaborate Way To Kill Ajak
The way in which Ikaris betrays Ajak seems more elaborate than it needs to be. Why wasn’t Ajak suspicious in the first place? Ikaris leads her to a giant bluff in the middle of the woods where anyone would be afraid to get murdered.
And to no one’s surprise, she died via the Deviants below. Couldn’t Ikaris have just killed her in her home and made it look like an accident? The Deviants in general were like an afterthought in the overall plot. Maybe Ikaris could have directly teamed up with them instead.

3Thena’s Illness Magically Cured
The reason why the Eternals break up is because of Thena’s Mad Weary disease. That’s part of the reason anyway. It’s shownthroughout the moviemany times that Thena can snap into a blood rage at any moment. Thena is one of few characters that the movie tries to make viewers think they are going to turn evil.

Thena is a red herring as it were. The only one who can soothe her is Gilgamesh. When he dies fans might have assumed she would go crazy but Thena doesn’t. It’s the opposite. Thena is seemingly cured of her blood rage after he passes and it is never explained why.
Sersi and Ikaris are shown to be in love around the 400 BC era. The story flashes forward eventually to show them getting married about 800 years later. That is a long courtship. 800 years is probably nothing for the Eternals though.

Maybe that’s a typical engagement for immortal beings. The idea is still a bit silly given the fact that this scene plays out and is then quickly forgotten in less than a minute.
1Name Dropping Batman And Superman
One of the best things about the MCU is that it can reference itself freely. There are so many heroes characters can reference now, spanning over a decade. Non-Marvel heroes are also brought up for the first time in the MCU which brings a lot of questions to mind.
DidBatmanandSupermanexist in comic form before the first real superhero was revealed in the films? Maybe the two heroes were created based on theheroes in the MCU. The point is why were they referenced instead of Marvel heroes? It just felt out of place.
