Insomniac’s upcomingWolverinegame remains elusive at the moment, with very little information being released on it yet. Despite this, Wolverine himself is one of the most recognizable superheroes on Marvel’s roster, and his unique powers and abilities are well known even to those with only a passing interest in the genre. His skeleton and claws have been fused with the powerful metal Adamantium, resulting in him becoming near-indestructible.Cyberpunk 2077’s futuristic world allows players to enhance their character’s body with cybernetic prosthetics, andMarvel’s Wolverinecould use a similar system to great effect.

Cyberpunk 2077’s take on a dystopian futureputs players in control of the protagonist V, who can be either male or female depending on preference. Not only is V able to wield a large number of powerful weapons, but they also have access to a suite of upgrades and enhancements that can improve key attributes like aiming speed, accuracy, and even the ability to jump higher and further. The player has full creative control over which upgrades to use, and this level of customization enhances the game’s replayability. Wolverine’s Adamantium skeleton should mean thatMarvel’s Wolverinecan take a similar approach to upgrades, allowing players to customize the powerful mutant to fit their play style.

Marvel’s Wolverine Game Could Tackle Upgrades Similarly to Cyberpunk 2077

The prospect of a customizable Wolverine will be an exciting one for fans. Insomniac has already shown it knows how to successfully introduce upgrades and customization to well-known superheroes with its two critically acclaimedSpider-Mangames. Both of those open-world titles offer playersa range of suits to change Spider-Man’s visual appearance, as well as plenty of upgrades and abilities to keep combat fresh and engaging.

Wolverine’s Adamantium skeleton is the perfect base to build on, and the game should push the boundaries of what is possible in terms of upgrading it. Experience points, or whatever the game’s currency is, could be exchanged in return for Logan going back onto the operating table, and upgrading his already powerful frame with some new additions.Wolverine’s retractable clawsare a defining character trait, and they will undoubtedly play a key role in the game, but that isn’t to say he couldn’t get other weapons grafted to his frame within the confines of the video game at least.

Cosmetic upgrades and visual customization are almost expected in every AAA release these days, and allowing players tocustomize Wolverine’s appearanceis almost a given at this point. Aside from his claws, it isn’t yet known what other weapons will be available, but it’s hard to imagine that the player won’t have other offensive options, and upgrading Logan’s skeleton could play a significant part in this. This would be an engaging and innovative take on the tried-and-tested upgrade mechanics that are used in hundreds of games.

While an open world for the motorbike-riding Logan to explore feels like the right fit,Marvel’s Wolverinemay yet go in a different direction and, with the open world genre feeling slightly saturated of late, the game could adopt a more structured, mission-based approach instead. WithMarvel’s Spider-Man 2set for a fall release, those wanting more information on theWolverineproject may have to wait a while longer, as marketing for New York’s favorite web-swinging hero’s newest adventure is expected to ramp up.Cyberpunk 2077’s upcoming DLC titledPhantom Libertyshould pick up where events in the game left off, and it will introduce Idris Elba’s mysterious character to the mix.

Marvel’s Wolverineis currently in production for PS5.
