Summary

Skyrimhas a specific reference to the legendary sword Excalibur that could make a return inThe Elder Scrolls 6, albeit in a different light. SinceSkyrimitself is the story of an epic quest, it makes sense that it would reference one of the most widely-known legends in fiction. While players can’t find Excalibur itself in the game, the easter egg can be picked up on by players who are familiar with the stories about the sword. IfThe Elder Scrolls 6ends up making a return trip to Skyrim, the easter egg could return as well.

The legend of theDragonborn inThe Elder Scrollsgoes beyond the plot ofSkyrim, but the Last Dragonborn’s story is one that players get to experience firsthand. From barely escaping execution at Helgen to fighting against Alduin the World Eater, the Last Dragonborn’s story takes place at the pace that the player dictates. The entire region of Skyrim offers a remarkable amount of adventures outside of the main quest. Between the civil war, the various faction storylines, and all of the smaller happenings around Skyrim, players have plenty to do. Everything that they encounter becomes a part of the legend of the Last Dragonborn, including the sword quest.

Skyrim’s Lady in the Lake Doesn’t Have to Be an Isolated Reference

Skyrim Has an Excalibur Reference Outside Bleakwind Basin

One of the earliesteaster eggs inSkyrimcan be found not too far away from the city of Whiterun, where an early branch of the main quest takes place. In the river near the giant camp of Bleakwind Basin, there is a skeletal arm sticking out of the water, clutching a sword. This is a reference to the Lady of the Lake, who appeared to gift Arthur with the sword Excalibur. The sword in the skeleton arm is nowhere near as powerful, being a sword scaled to the player’s level. However, the reference to the legend is still intact.

In addition to the Lady in the Lake reference,Skyrimhas an actual sword in a stone outside of Rebel’s Cairn.

Oblivion Remastered Players Return to Skyrim

Elder Scrolls 6 Could Revisit Skyrim’s Sword-Offering Skeletal Arm

This shout-out could be re-used as a way forThe Elder Scrolls 6to remember the Dragonborn. IfThe Elder Scrolls 6takes players back to Skyrim, then they might have the chance to explore the area around Whiterun once more. If so, then the river near Bleakwind Basin could be revisited. The Skeletal arm could make a return, but this time without a sword in its grasp. Since the Dragonborn would have picked up the sword during their adventure, it would make sense for the sword to no longer be there. Such a move could be a subtle reminder of the Dragonborn’s journey.

The Chance of Elder Scrolls 6 Revisiting Skyrim is Still a Mystery

Of course, there’s no guarantee thatThe Elder Scrolls 6will return to Skyrim. Even thoughElder Scrolls 6can carry overSkyrimfeatures, the region itself may not be among them. After all,The Elder Scrolls 6is going to need to establish its own identity, just like every game in the series beforehand. In all likelihood, that would include taking place in a new part of Tamriel. However, revisiting Skyrim, either during the story or through DLC, is not out of the question. If a return trip to Skyrim does happen, thenThe Elder Scrolls 6could include plenty of familiar landmarks.

Skyrim’s small Excalibur story could live on throughThe Elder Scrolls 6if the player can stroll near Whiterun once more. Oneunique advantage thatThe Elder Scrolls 6hasis the series' rich history, much of which could be alluded to or played off of in-game. The skeletal hand that once offered players a sword may not have been a big part ofSkyrim, but it was a memorable easter egg. Seeing the hand again inThe Elder Scrolls 6could provide a pleasant rush of nostalgia.
