In theHarry Potterfranchise, Hogwarts students are allowed to adopt a pet that they can take with them to school, and nowHarry Potter: Hogwarts Mysteryplayers have the opportunity to do the same.Harry Potter: Hogwarts Mysteryhas officially added the ability to adopt pets.
Harry Potter: Hogwarts Mysteryplayers have four different pets to choose from: a cat, a rat, an owl, or a toad. The selection lines up with establishedHarry Pottercanon, and reflects the type of pets owned by main characters in the books. In the books, Hermione adopts a cat, Ron brings his hand-me-down pet rat Scabbers along with him, Neville Longbottom has a toad (that he often loses track of), and of course, Harry is gifted Hedwig the owl from Hagrid when the two visit Diagon Alley together for the first time.

Players are able to purchase pets through the avatar customization HUD with gems, with cats costing 215 gems, owls costing 320 gems, rats costing 160 gems, and toads costing 160 gems. For the uninitiated, gems are the primary currency inHogwarts Mystery, and players can either purchase them with real money or earn them in-game in various ways.
Players are able to adopt one of each type of pet inHogwarts Mystery, and afteradopting a pet, they can be found in the dormitory. Players will be able to select one pet at a time to take with them on their adventures while they complete objectives and explore the castle. Pets will be more than just cosmetic items, though, as players will earn free energy by waking them up.

By giving players the chance to adopt pets, Jam City is keeping its promises and makingHarry Potter: Hogwarts Mysterya more fully-featured experience. In the future, it’s likely that the studio will follow through with some of its other promises about the game, like theinclusion of romance options, but fans will have to wait and see to be sure.
Harry Potter: Hogwarts Mysteryis out now for iOS and Android mobile devices.
