When it comes to horror games, aliens are surprisingly underutilized. While aliens have made plenty of appearances in shooters and action games, it’s relatively rare to see them pop up in pure horror titles. That’s what makes the upcoming survival-horror gameGreyhill Incidentso intriguing, as it features classic-stylegrey aliens and UFOsin a horror game setting.

Developer Refugium Games released a new trailer forGreyhill Incidentearlier this month.Greyhill Incidentis set in 1992, with the titular town of Greyhill tormented by bizarre occurrences that they can’t explain. The residents of Greyhill take matters into their own hands, boarding up their homes in an attempt to wait out theextraterrestrial threat.

The player character, Ryan Baker, is tasked with exploring Greyhill after-dark, armed with a baseball bat and a revolver. Baker will need to avoid being found by the hostile Greys, all the while helping his neighbors by completing various tasks. This is all according to the game’s Steam page, which paintsGreyhill Incidentas a creepy first-person horror game that looks to be somewhat reminiscent of otherfirst-person horror titles likeOutlast.

Greyhill Incident’s aesthetic is reminiscent ofOutlast, but it also calls to mind alien invasion films, particularly M. Night Shyamalan’s 2002 sci-fi horror movieSigns. Not only willGreyhill Incidentfeature farmland and cornfields to explore, like the protagonists ofSigns, but there’s even a character wearing a tinfoil hat, likeJoaquin Phoenix’s character did in the movie. According to theGreyhill IncidentSteam page, this is Bob “The Lunatic” Baker, Ryan’s brother. Another NPC mentioned in the Steam page is “The Veteran” Brandon, who appears to be in dire trouble at the end of the trailer.

As it stands,Greyhill Incidentis only pegged for release on PC, so it seems PC gamers will get to find out what happens to Brandon and the rest of Greyhill’s residents when the game comes out next year. One has to imagine that console ports would be possible if the game drums up enough interest, but nothing to that effect has been announced at the time for this writing. So for now, anyone interested in playingGreyhill Incidentand experiencing the game’s creepy alien invasion story for themselves should plan to do so onPC via Steam.

Greyhill Incident’s alien invasion premise will help it stand out among the sea of horror games on the horizon, but it’s not the only game about an alien invasion that’s in development. As a matter of fact, next month will see the launch of a newDestroy All Humansgame in the form ofDestroy All Humans 2: Reprobed, which similarly features a grey alien. However, whereGreyhill Incidentis a serious horror game project,Destroy All Humans 2: Reprobedis a comedy action game.
