Grand Theft Auto 6is turning into one of the most interesting stories in video games today for a number of different reasons. There’s very little doubt that there’s plenty of demand for the next chapter in the long-running Rockstar Games series. Its predecessor,Grand Theft Auto 5, is still hugely popular. In fact,GTA 5is so popular that Rockstar is going to be introducing aPS5 and Xbox Series X/S version of the gamethis coming November. A release of an upgraded version of what can only be called a very old title by video game standards is part of what makes the story ofGTA 6so interesting. It’s gotten to the point whereGrand Theft Auto 6might just be one of the great American myths of the gaming community.
Grand Theft Auto 6, like most great myths, has a ton of believers. There are plenty of people out there that will tell anyone who will listen that the game is coming at some point. They can even make a pretty good argument for its existence. After all, it only makes sense that Rockstar Games would want to keep the franchise rolling right along. It’s been a massive money maker for the company. It’s popular enough that the company thinks it’s worth it to offer an upgraded version despite how long its been out there. However, being able to make a case for something, doesn’t mean it’s true. Plenty of people built quite a case for the existence of the New Jersey Devil. People swear they’ve seen Bigfoot traipsing around wooded areas all over the country.

Grand Theft Auto 6 And Those Rumored Settings
Just like people point to footprints when trying to sell the public on Bigfoot being real, there are supposed traces ofGrand Theft Auto 6out in the wild. One of the “clues” fans of the series point to the most is all the “leaks” of the next game’s map. There have been so many rumors and so many supposed leaks that there is even a code name being circulated around the web that is supposed to point to GTA 6. That code name is often referred to as “Project Americas” and is supposed to be a hint atthe nextGrand Theft Auto’s name as well as the size and locationof its map.
There are also rather persistent rumors thatGrand Theft Auto 6is going to include at least part of an old map.Vice City is the setting mentionedmost often in that regard. There are even some who believe they’ve found clues as to this being the setting for the game - that still hasn’t been confirmed - because of domain names.
That’s not to say that going back to aGrand Theft Autosetting that was as popular as Vice Cityis a bad idea. The last time a game was set in that location was a whopping 19 years ago. It could be quite a bit of fun to go back to that area and that map in some fashion. It’s a fan favorite and could be made quite a bit prettier with current technology. The problem is that beyond some internet sleuths believing they’ve found proof the series is going to be returning to that iconic city, there isn’t any confirmation at all from Rockstar or Take-Two that a return to the previous map is planned.

Feeding The Grand Theft Auto 6 Myth
One of the biggest falsehoods about myths, whether in the video game world or when talking about something like Bigfoot or the Loch Ness Monster, is that everyone wants the myth to be debunked. There are plenty of reasons why plenty of people could want rumors about aGrand Theft Auto 6to continue right up until there’s some concrete announcement one way or another. The franchise’s development team certainly isn’t in a bad spot ifexcitement forGTA 6continues to grow. That excitement is likely only going to hit a crescendo if there is indeed some announcement about the next title in the series, sometime in the future.
That could be one of the reasons that when someone spots something like ajob listing on the Rockstar Games website, the company doesn’t appear to be rushing out there to shut down the guesses on what it could mean. There’s no reason the company would want to go out of its way to disappoint the very people it needs in order to make a game work. There is, of course, also the chance that the job listing could indeed be forGrand Theft Auto 6. Just because the game hasn’t been confirmed yet, doesn’t mean it absolutely isn’t in development. There’s also the argument that the company wants to keep rumors about the game churning because it is being made and it wants to have the road paved to the reveal.
Proving The Unprovable Grand Theft Auto 6
One of the most confounding things about the “great American myths” is that it’s impossible to prove a negative. Does Bigfoot exist? While no one has been able to find the creature, that doesn’t mean it’s not out there somewhere. The same can be said of the New Jersey Devil and any number of ghost stories that are constantly passed from generation to generation. In this case, the myth is, in some ways, being passed from one generation of console to the next.Grand Theft Auto 5launched on the PS3 and Xbox 360. Since that game hit the market, there’s beentalk aboutGrand Theft Auto 6following “at some point.”
There is, of course, one big difference between some of the other myths and the “myth” ofGTA 6. There are at least a few people who absolutely do know whether or not the game is in development. At least they know whether or not it’s in development or planned for development at this point. That’s likely one of the reasons the rumors ofwhenGrand Theft Auto 6will release, and what the story will be like, persist. Half the fun of myths like this is believing there’s a way to crack the case and prove the subject’s existence. In the case ofGTA 6, the only real proof will come when Rockstar decides to let it out, into the wild.
