As of late,Fortnite’s Battle Royale mode has been on a roll with updates, with the latest patch addinga new Campfire item that heals, a change to the Boogie Bomb, and a much-needed fix to a major bug in the game. Now, Epic Games and People Can Fly are bringing even more refinements to the sandbox survival title, with the development team set to revamp the Battle Royale mode’s map in a new update scheduled for unspecified date sometime next week.

As found below inFortnite’s latest dev update video for its Battle Royale mode, lead systems designer Eric Williamson reveals that the map patch will introduce a “bunch of new points of interest” for players to explore. The major highlight is easily the fresh city section, but there will also be a bunch of other new named spots located around the western part of the map, as Williamson explains that the team wanted players to have “more locations to drop into” on that area.

Furthermore, Williamson says thatFortnite’s different “biomes” in Battle Royale have been divided up in a way to have them be more distinguishable from one another. To illustrate, the game’s lead systems designer states, “The swamp feels swampier, the mountains feel more mountain-y. Really, the different areas of the map feel more unique.”

Of course, next week’s update forFortnite’s Battle Royale mode won’t completely focus on the addition of new areas to the map, as the team is hard at work ensuring the game runs smoothly overall. Williamson went on to discuss some quality-of-life improvements that are described as a “work-in-progress,” but he failed to mention exactly what those updates will contain.

Finally, Williamson confirms that Christmas trees and the chests found under them are on their way out due to theholiday eventhaving ended. Another reason for their removal is due to the newly expanded map having a lot of new places to find loot. According toFortniteBattle Royale’s lead systems designer, Epic wants items to be “distributed evenly so that there isn’t too much additional rare loot in [a] match.” While all of this definitely sounds promising, hopefully the implementation of the new map update won’t bring about any unforeseenserver issuesnext week.

Fortniteis available now in early access on PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One, with its full launch occurring at some point in 2018.
