During an average playthrough ofFallout: New Vegas, or indeed any open-world game, it’s far too easy to accidentally pick up unwanted items, which is why a recent mod takes the headache out of sorting through inventory. Along with the 2010 post-apocalyptic RPG,Obsidian Entertainment has put out a lot of high quality titlesover the years. Not only are the studio’s games generally well-received, they also show that the team is capable of spanning genres, though the biggest strength often comes down to magnificent storytelling.

Sadly, upcoming titles likeAvowed,Grounded,Outer Worlds 2, not to mention the release of last year’sPentiment, means it’s looking likely that aFallout: New Vegas 2may not be happening, at least not for the time being. That’s a shame, as the first game is regarded by many to be the superior entry in theFalloutseries. However, the title has become something of a classic which the fans are not yet giving up on, evidenced by the fact that mods continue to come out for it.

A recent one has been spotted by PC Gamer. Coming from Nexus Mods user S6S, “Auto Drop - Drop Junk” makes inventory management a little bit easier inFallout: New Vegas. Essentially, the mod works by automatically getting rid of any unwanted items the Courier accidentally picks up. No doubt many players will know the annoyance of aiming at a particular weapon, piece of ammo, or other valuable trinket only to pick up something useless instead, all because the cursor or crosshair happened to be near that item. What S6S’s “tiny file” does is take the headache out of having to go through and manually get rid of anything that wasn’t wanted in the first place.

Since releasing more than 12 years ago, there have been manyexcellent mods forFallout: New Vegas, including ones that make it feel like a brand-new game. Not only does this show the dedication of theFalloutand modding community, but is also a testament to the love that fans are still willing to give Obsidian’s RPG.

WithBethesda confirmingFallout 5in 2022, the series continues unabated. However, given the praise that was lavished onNew Vegas, some would probably prefer Obsidian take over the reins for the next entry. Whether the California-based developer will ever get round to making a follow-up to its 2010Falloutinstallment cannot be said at this stage, but at least there are still plenty of mods for the game to keep things interesting.

Fallout: New Vegasis available now for PC, PS3, and Xbox 360.
