Publisher and developer Bethesda Softworks officially announces that the PlayStation 4 Pro update for its post-apocalyptic RPG,Fallout 4, adds high-res textures.
A couple of months ago, Bethesda declared thatFallout 4would be receivingPS4 Pro supportin the one of the game’s next major updates to take advantage of the newly added power to Sony’s enhanced system. Now, the publisher and developer have confirmed that the PlayStation 4 Pro version ofFallout 4will be receiving a high resolution texture pack sometime next week alongside the PC iteration as well in order to send a “love letter” to fans of the post-apocalyptic RPG.
Bethesda originally made the announcement regarding next week’s Update 1.9 forFallout 4on PC and PlayStation 4 Pro in anofficial blog post. The studio went on to state that the platforms' patches are to be completely free of charge, but it did mention that the update is going to take up quite a sizable portion of hard drive space on PC, with fans needing an additional 58 GB of available space to install the texture pack on their respective rigs.
Although Bethesda didn’t provide details as to how big the PS4 Pro update forFallout 4will be, the company did reveal the features included in the console’s patch. For instance, Update 1.9 will bring about native 1440p resolution, enhanced draw distance (for trees, grass, objects, and NPCs), and enhanced Godray effects for the PlayStation 4 Pro.
OnceFallout 4officially receives its update with high-resolution textures and upgraded visuals for the PlayStation 4 Pro, it will join the ranks of many other titles to have been given a makeover for Sony’s enhanced console. For instance, Ubisoft’s third-person shooter from 2016,Tom Clancy’s The Division,recently received supportfor the PS4 Pro. Of course, it’s not safe to bet on the possibility of all older titles eventually getting a patch for the PS4 Pro, as Bungie has gone on record to confirm it hasno plans forDestinyto receive the upgrade treatmentfor the console.
While the news related toFallout 4receiving an update and high-resolution texture packs for PC and PlayStation 4 will likely excite those who are still wandering the Wasteland waiting for visual improvements to be implemented, there are surely many more looking to the future of what Bethesda has to offer in the form of new games. As it stands, not much is known about the company’s forthcoming projects, but Bethesda has confirmed thattwo new, unannounced gamesare currently in the works, with a lot of fans’predictions ofThe Elder Scrolls 6coming next being unlikely.
