With the way things are shaping up, 2023 will probably go down as one of the best years in gaming, and maybe the best year ever for thehorrorgaming genre.Dead Space Remakekicked off the year in terrifying style, authentically recreating the iconic 2008 original experience while improving on it in every way imaginable.Resident Evil 4 Remakethen continued the streak, doing exactly the same for the beloved 2005 original.Amnesia: The Bunkerhas been a big Xbox Game Passhit, andSons of the Forestwas a suitably horrifying sequel to the first game.
But 2023 is only halfway done, and there’s a lot more where that came from. The second half of 2023 is just as jam-packed full ofhorrorgames, with many coinciding with October’s spooky season. From huge AAA single-player horror titles to lesser-known indie games, all the way to asymmetrical multiplayer projects and everything else in between, there are more than enough games for horror fans to dive head-first into later this year.

Every Horror Game Coming in 2023
The next horror game set to release in 2023 isSumo Digital’sTexas Chain Saw Massacregame, hitting store shelves and Xbox Game Pass on August 18. Clearly heavily inspired byDead By DaylightandFriday the 13th,Texas Chain Saw Massacreis yet another asymmetrical multiplayer horror game, this time based on the 1974 movie of the same name.Texas Chain Saw Massacresees one team of killers suit as up as Leatherface and the rest of the cannibalistic Sawyer family and hunt down a team of survivors, all attempting to find resources that will eventually pave the way to freedom. While this game shares a lot of similarities with its inspirations, the big thing setting it apart from them is the sheer scale of each match, with three killers chasing down four survivors across a large map.
October sees the release of two highly anticipated third-person survival horror games, with the first beingAlan Wake 2, the long-awaited sequel to 2010’sAlan Wake. Again revolving around a mysterious shadow cult,Alan Wake 2sees players take control of the titular writer and an FBI agent named Saga Anderson, tasked with getting to the bottom of the mystery behind Bright Falls. At the end of October,Alone in the Darkis set to release. A remake of the 1992 horror classic that inspiredResident Evil,Alone in the Dark2023 will bring a new third-person camera angle and modern visuals, along with voice performances from two big Hollywood names, Jodie Comer and David Harbour.
The last game with a specific release window isS.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Heart of Chornobyl. A game that’s seen setback after setback - including many of its developers being forced to fight against the Russian invasion of Ukraine -S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2is finally set to launch in December 2023, though it’s unclear if it’ll end up making that. When it does launch, however,S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2will likely be another excellent FPS survival horror game, with plenty of mutant abominations to desperately flee from.
Though they don’t have specific release windows just yet, another handful of horror games are also set to release in 2023 still.Bloober Team’sSilent Hill 2 Remakeis probably the most high-profile example, set to bring a third-person over-the-shoulder camera angle to the game, much like the recentResident Evilremakes and the aforementionedAlone in the Darkremake.Slitterheadis another highly anticipated 2023 horror release, coming from Keiichiro Toyama, the original creator ofSilent Hill,and featuring some truly petrifying body horror.
