ThePS5andXbox Series Xare both coming out during the holiday season of 2020 and already have a bunch of new games confirmed for them even though they are several months away from launch. There is still some information not known about the consoles, particularlythe PS5 and its reveal, but new games have been confirmed for them nonetheless. From first party studios to third party publishers, many companies have jumped on the next-gen hype train early on. There are a few reasons for this, but the clearest one is because console launches tend to be huge events.

Ubisoft openly admits that console launches are huge business for the company because of the fact that the machines are marketed by Sony, Microsoft, Nintendo, etc. and it just has to deliver the games (this is why some games likeAssassin’s Creed Black Flagbecame such successes). However, big publishers like Ubisoft and EA have been the only ones announcing these next generation games so far. As such, only triple A-level games have been confirmed for thePS5and Xbox Series X. Additionally, Xbox’s 15 first-party studios, and Sony’s 14 studios, are all working on next generation games in some capacity, big or small.

PlayStation First-Party Games and Exclusives

Sony’s first-party studios include extremely popular developers like Naughty Dog and Sony Santa Monica Studio which together have produced legendary franchises likeUncharted, God of War,andThe Last of Us.Just like the months leading up to the PS4’s launch, Sony executives have confirmed that all of its first-party studios are already working on PS5 games, and it’s only a matter of time as to when all of these new titles will be revealed. Some may be revealed immediately, likeSpider-Man 2at the PS5 reveal, while the bulk of them will take years to be announced.

Naughty Dog is releasingThe Last of Us 2later this year in May, so it is going to take awhile before fans hear from the studio again. Bluepoint has also been teasing a game for some time now meaning PS5 fans can look forward to whatever it announces. Otherwise, Gearbox and Counterplay’s upcomingPS5 console exclusiveGodfallis the only real confirmed exclusive for the PS5. The “looter-slasher” is due to arrive either at the PS5’s launch or close to it.

Xbox First-Party Games and Exclusives

Until Sony announces anything major,Xbox has a significant advantage over PS5in terms of blockbuster exclusives coming at launch on the next generation.Halo Infinitelaunching at the same time as the Xbox Series X means that Microsoft is going all out at the start of this upcoming generation, putting out a game from its most popular franchise.Halo Infiniteis the newest entry in the mainline series and is sure to become one of the biggest games of this year once it releases.

At The Game Awards 2019, Microsoft showed off the Xbox Series X in a surprise announcement along with glimpses ofHalo Infinite. It also surprisingly announcedSenua’s Saga Hellblade 2,though it didn’t confirm any sort of release window. Either way, these two games are big power moves from Microsoft and are sure to make the Xbox Series X that much more enticing to prospective players. Third-Party Games on PS5 and Xbox Series X

The lot of confirmed next generation games come from third-party publishers like EA and Ubisoft. Notably, Ubisoft has confirmed at least five games for the upcoming console generation. After delaying the following games, it then stated thatWatch Dogs Legion, Gods and Monsters, andRainbow Six Quarantine(along with two other titles yet to be officially revealed) would all be coming to the PS5 and Xbox Series X as well. Ubisoft has historically supported all console launches with many games from its major franchises so its newest games are no surprise, like theViking themedAssassin’s Creed Ragnarokwhich, though only a rumored project at this point, should be a blockbuster release for the new consoles.

EA has confirmed the existence ofBattlefield 6andThe Sims 5(in some capacity) and has stated that both of those titles will be coming to the PS5 and Xbox Series X as well. EA executive Andrew Wilson has also talked openly about the idea ofThe Sims 5taking full advantage of cross-play. Bethesda is another major publisher to have confirmed games coming out in the next few years, so fans can expect bothThe Elder Scrolls 6andStarfieldto arrive sometime after the launches of the PS5 and Xbox Series X.

Two other titles confirmed for the next generation are Techland’sDying Light 2which was delayed indefinitely, and Daedalic Entertainment’sThe Lord of The Rings Gollumwhich is due sometime in 2021.

Rumored Titles for PS5 and Xbox Series X

Although the list of confirmed next generation games is tangibly limited, rumored games for the PS5 and Xbox Series X appear to be infinite in number. Many rumored games are entirely feasible and are most likely happening like the sequels to two of Sony’s 2018 mega hits,God of WarandSpider-Manwhich both ended in cliffhangers and have multiple scenes hinting at more stories in further titles. Other very reasonable rumors and predictions of new titles includeGrand Theft Auto 6and the aforementionedAssassin’s Creed Ragnarok.

Ubisoft has stated in the past that theAssassin’s Creedfranchise will see some new entry in 2020 so the consistent nature of the rumors behindRagnarokline up with Ubisoft’s track record.Grand Theft Auto 6is another no-brainer as Rockstar could easily make a ton of money off a newGrand Theft Autogame, even if the success ofGrand Theft Auto Onlineis making the studio take it slower than usual.

In regards to other major rumors of next generation titles, the only other ones are predictions stating how several 2020 Xbox One games are also releasing on Xbox Series X but with the console’s reported backward compatibility, those rumors are really just guesses.
