The Elder Scrollsis a series that has been going strong for decades and there are several races that inhabit each installment. A fan artist recently combined Dunmer fromThe Elder Scrolls 3: Morrowind,The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion, andThe Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrimto illustrate the differences between them.
The Dunmer have changed since the release ofMorrowindback in 2002 as illustrated by a fan ofThe Elder Scrollsfranchise on Reddit. This fan art combines models of dark elves from various titles inThe Elder Scrollsgames with the artist’s own interpretation of each generation of Dunmer alongside them.

At the beginning ofMorrowind,The Elder Scrollsfans areintroduced to a Dunmer known as Jiubwho’s rough around the edges and looks like an alien more than an elf. This fan art shows Jiub next to Felen Relas fromOblivionand a player-createdSkyrimDunmer. The juxtaposition between the three dark elves is further emphasized by an adjacent doodle of each of their faces. The first and last doodle of the Dunmer look intimidating and strong, while theOblivioncharacter in the middle is a grinning babyface.
Based on the artists' doodles underneath the various Dunmer models fromThe Elder Scrollsseries shows just how toned down theOblivionDunmer are in comparison to either those inMorrowindorSkyrim. While the Dunmer inMorrowindlook rugged and barebones, the vilified dark elves ofSkyrimare battle-hardened. Each of the headshots emphasizes theglowing red eyes ofThe Elder Scrolls' Dunmer, but only the left and right doodles show off the appropriately dark tones of the dark elves.
Dunmer inOblivionmay not have been as battle-hardened as those inSkyrimor as rugged as theirMorrowindbrethren, but there are still fans of the happier design. Several fans ofThe Elder Scrollscommented on this fan art to spread Dunmer fondness and appreciation for the lore of the grey-skinned elves. Eachgeneration ofThe Elder ScrollsDunmershows improvements in visual fidelity and there are several fans noticing the improvements made along the way in the Reddit comments.
Jiub is a prisoner whenThe Elder Scrollsfans meet him at the beginning ofMorrowind, but throughout the course of the game, he achieves sainthood. Meanwhile, Felen Relas is an accomplished Alchemist that plays a big role atOblivion’s Mages Guild. The dark elves ofSkyrimare vilified by the Nords, but some characters such as Irileth and Neloth rise above the systemic hatred to reach success.
