Even though critical reception ofDragon Ball Z: Kakarothasn’t set the world on fire, fans have really embraced the latest game in the long running franchise. The action RPG lets fans experience the world ofDragon Ballby partaking in various activities, relive important story moments, interact with all sorts of classic characters, and face off againstmajor enemies like Vegeta and Android 20. The attention to detail and lore has seemingly paid off as the game has reached a pretty big milestone.
In a press release from Bandai Namco, the company revealed thatDragon Ball Z Kakarothas sold 1.5 million copies globally in its first week being available. The milestone is an impressive one for the RPG, even if it didn’t quite reachDragon Ball FighterZ2 million copies sold in its first week.

Following its reveal,Dragon Ball Z: Kakarothas enjoyed plenty of pre-launch hype through new details as well as trailers. That momentum clearly helped overall sales in the first week, even thoughcritical reception of the title has been mixedat best. The combat and story which takes players through many classic sagas have proven to be a bright spot even if some of its RPG game mechanics like side missions are generic or poorly implemented.
Regardless, the strong support from fans has already helped lead to strong post-launch support through updates and patches to try and address some of nagging bugs and performance issues. The latest patch, version 1.04, arrived at the end of January andhelped drastically improve the load timeswhile addressing a number of bugs. Unfortunately, fans expected to also see the addition of more time machine missions, letting players return to previous sections of the story as well as complete timed sub-stories. It seems players are going to have to wait just a bit longer.
In addition to periodic patches, Bandai Namco is also readying a steady stream of post-launch content, much of which has yet to be detailed. Fans have speculated that future content will likely center on events fromDragon Ball Super. A season pass is available for special edition players or as a separate purchase and while the details are slim, it does reveal that players will gain access to two original episodes and one completely new story.Dragon Ball Superspeculation has seen an uptick recently thanks to a discovery bydataminers revealing Beerus and Whisbeing playable inside of the game files. These two are prominentDB Supercharacters, so it seems likely that Bandai Namco is going to be heading in that direction for future content.
