Summary

Destiny 2’s The Final Shape expansion is coming on June 4 of this year, and it had a lot riding on its shoulders before the reveal of Into The Light, which put many fans back on Bungie’s side. But Bungie is very much not done delivering a lot of great content, and today the official gameplay reveal of The Final Shape included something most Guardians were hoping to see after Lightfall - a new subclass. To the surprise of many, considering Bungie had already revealed three new Light subclasses, one for each class, coming with The Final Shape,Destiny 2is now getting Prismatic subclassesas well.

Much like everyDestiny 2subclass and element, Prismatic will also come with its own selection of components, like grenades, melee attacks, class abilities, Aspects, and Fragments. But there is more to Prismatic subclasses than any other inDestiny 2, and that’s the fact that The Final Shape’s new addition will combine Light and Darkness powers for the first time ever. This is a big deal both in terms of lore and gameplay, and with everything that has been shown and revealed about The Final Shape’s Prismatic, it looks like a potentially broken subclass.

How Destiny 2’s Prismatic Transcendence Works in The Final Shape

Unlike every othersubclass inDestiny 2, Prismatic will have two distinct meters - one for Light, and the other for Darkness. Filling both of these meters will allow players to enter a new state called Transcendence, which will feature unique animations for each class, and it will have several different effects on the gameplay loop. For starters, Transcendence will give Guardians full grenade and melee charges upon activation, which can in and of itself create powerful combos inDestiny 2’s current state.

On top of that, each class will have different special grenades to use. These include a combination of different elements, seeing how Prismatic combinesDestiny 2’s Light and Darkness subclasses. This list includes:

The effects of these grenades and the various other abilities for Prismatic subclasses are up to the players' combinations, so they can greatly vary based on what players want to achieve. Transcendence is not limited to that, however, as it will also provide players with a weapon damage bonus that stacks with other sources of bonus weapon damage, makingDestiny 2’s gunsmore lethal.

Destiny 2’s Prismatic Subclasses Will Have Light and Darkness Supers

Destiny 2’s The Final Shapeintroducing the new Prismatic sublcass is a big deal for a plethora of reasons, as it’s one of the most game-changing additions and potentially game-breaking as well. One of these reasons why Prismatic already seems great is that, according to Bungie, it will have more Fragments and Fragment slots than other subclasses, meaning players will get to achieve more incredible combos than ever before, especially seeing how Prismatic can potentially use all keywords from all elements. This is already a big boon for buildcrafting, and it doesn’t seem to be the end of it either.

In fact, while Bungie didn’t comment on this, the gameplay video does include sections where Guardians are seen using Prismatic Supers, and they seem to combine Light and Darkness powers as well. For example, the first gameplay section featuring a Prismatic Hunter shows a Guardian using the newArc Hunter Super coming inDestiny 2’s Final Shape, but it’s combined with Stasis' Silence and Squall Super. This not only mixes Arc and Stasis damage, but also the Super abilities' effects, creating an icy tornado from Stasis and jumping around with Arc damage three times. The implications of Prismatic are many, and players are likely to notice all of them as time passes.
