Destiny 2’s Season of Defiance is coming to a close in a little over a month, and while its seasonal narrative was kept rather short, it was still quite impactful because of the death of Amanda Holliday. On the other hand, not a lot of the new seasonal weapons from the Queensguard arsenal are considered worth farming for by fans, whereasDestiny 2’s Trials of Osiris introduced The Immortal Strand SMG, which ended up dominating the meta in PVP, while also providing a great choice in PVE. Lightfall shook up the meta quite a bit with its changes since launch, though, and Season of the Deep might do that to an even greater degree thanks to its new and returning weapons, as well as Exotic buffs.

Destiny 2’s Season of the Deephas recently been in the limelight because of several leaks that started floating around on the internet. Interestingly enough, Bungie revealed the returning weapons for Season of the Deep in its latest TWAB post, and while a couple new ones seem to give credit to the leaks, past glories are what caught the community’s interest very fast. Among them are long-time favorites like the Loaded Question fusion rifle, The Messenger pulse rifle, and above all, Randy’s Throwing Knife. Still, fans shouldn’t look at these guns through rose-tinted glasses because they might be very different than they were.

Season of the Deep’s Returning Weapons Are a Double-Edged Sword for Destiny 2 Fans

The Loaded Question fusion rifle was long regarded as one of the best guns in the entirety ofDestiny 2, with some players still clinging to the sunset roll. Similarly, Randy’s Throwing Knife is often commended as one of the best scout rifles in the game for both PVP and PVE, mainly thanks to its rapid-fire frame and the fact that it came with a bunch of great perks, from Rapid Hit and Snapshot Sights to Zen Moment and Kill Clip.

However, this is not The Messenger’s first rodeo of coming back to the spotlight after a long hiatus from the loot pool, and Trials players may know that it got a major overhaul of its perk pool when it was first reintroduced to the game. Since weapons in the game no longer come with specific rolls with two selectable perks per column, guns like Loaded Question and Randy’s Throwing Knife may be very different compared to what they once were in their glory days. In fact,Destiny 2’s Pinnacle weaponsunderwent several changes as a concept, and now all the vendors in the game share the same gun with the same rolls instead of separate ones.

This streamlined the process of obtaining these weapons and provided players with an extra boon in terms of customization, as the game’s Vanguard, Crucible, and Gambit vendors all feature a themed skin for a given season’s Pinnacle gun. Loaded Question, Randy’s Throwing Knife, Braytech Osprey, Positive Outlook, and the other weapons will all come from playlist activities, however, so they won’t have this luxury. Furthermore,Destiny 2’s weapon perk poolhas undergone major changes too, and it’s likely that each of these returning Season of the Deep guns will have a very different set of perks available and corresponding Origin Traits.

As such, a newRandy’s Throwing Kniferoll might no longer come with Rapid Hit and Kill Clip, for example, which has pros and cons. A big pro is that buildcrafting will benefit from these retooled guns much more, as this rapid-fire Solar scout rifle might end up getting Solar-based perks and become a great asset in 3.0 builds. On the other hand, the feel of the gun might be lost to time, and the sunset roll would remain unusable still.Destiny 2’s sandbox is also a different beast compared to the past, and these guns might not even see the light of day as much because there could be far better alternatives now, leaving them as great nostalgia idols, but nothing more.

Destiny 2is currently available for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
