When it comes to the flora and fauna of the caverns players have to navigate tobring back their loot, there’s certainly more than a handful of things to give players pause. Here are the baddest bugs players will come across, along with tips for coming out on top in a firefight with these enemies.

5Glyphid Oppressor

The Glyphid Oppressor is the tankiest of the normal Glyphid variants. This big green nasty is covered in a smooth chitinous plate from head to toe. Impervious to everything except some of thehardest-hitting impact damagein the game, the Glyphid Oppressor is one of the strongest bugs inDeep Rock Galactic. Players will want to steer clear of this enemy, lest they get trampled and torn apart by tooth and claw.

How To Defeat It:

Though small-arms fire won’t do anything to a front-facing Glyphid Oppressor, this menacing figure has one key weakness. His thorax is completely unarmored, and dwarves who are able to flank this enemy will find a sickly green bulb to turn into pulp. Hammer on the Oppressor’s back, and he’ll be down for the count in no time.

4Mactera Grabber

The Mactera Grabber is one ofDeep Rock Galactic’sscariest normal enemies. The Mactera are the aerial species of bugs that live down in the caves of Hoxxes IV. Usually, these enemies flit and dart around the air, peppering dwarves from above while they’re struggling to deal with Glyphid swarms on the ground. The Mactera Grabber takes a much different approach: this bug has evolved to have long spindly arms specifically so it can snatch dwarves up and away from their comrades. It attacks with a screech, pouncing on a player and carrying them far up into the air, away from the safety of the ground.

There’s safety in numbers when a Mactera Grabber is around - this bug preys on dwarves whofind themselves separated from their team, so a good cohesive formation is a great way to pick this bug off when it makes its approach. The yellow bulb on its rear is the weak point, and the Mactera Grabber will be downed in no time with a couple of dwarves peppering it with their weapons.

3Dreadnought Hiveguard

The Glyphid Dreadnought Hiveguard is one of the potential bosses that players have a chance to encounter in the Elimination game mode. There’s also a rare chance that this boss will spawn while players are in a different game mode, such as Mining Expedition, Point Extraction, and On-Site Refining, so they have to stay on their toes no matter what. This armored juggernaut summons Glyphid Sentinel minions, has strong slash damagein melee range, and will fire a mortar of fiery chunks at players further away from it. The Dreadnought Hiveguard has some of the highest damage output of any enemy in the game, so it’s crucial to keep up with this difficult boss fight.

The Glyphid Dreadnought Hiveguard is invulnerable for most of the boss fight. It only exposes a weakness when players defeat all the summoned Glyphid Sentinels, so that should be the first and foremost priority when the Hiveguard enters the fight. The Sentinels leave behind a sticky, movement-slowing substance when defeated, so players should be mindful of where they’re going. Once the Sentinels are destroyed, three glowing weak points spawn on the Hiveguard; one on the left leg, one on the right leg, and one in the middle of its body. These points all have a fairly small pool of health points, and, when destroyed, players will finally be able to attack the Hiveguard. The abdomen of the Hiveguard becomes exposed to players, and it will close after a short period of time (or if players do 1/3 damage to the boss' health bar). The dwarves will need to rinse and repeat this process until the Hiveguard is defeated.

2BET-C

The BET-C is a dwarven machine, a piece ofDeep Rock Galactic’s corporate military machinery disabled and overtaken in the caves of Hoxxes IV. Like all ofDeep Rock Galactic’sproprietary technology, the BET-Cs are chock-full of explosives and high-caliber guns… and those are going to be turned on any player that gets close enough to wake the ghost in the shell. BET-Cs can be some of the deadliest enemies players run into during their time withDeep Rock Galactic, but when they’re defeated, they can be reprogrammed to become one of the strongest AI allies, as well.

The BET-Cs have turned against the dwarves because they’ve been overtaken by a special infestation - one that takes hold of both man and machine. Luckily, the infestation covering the BET-C leaves itincredibly vulnerable to ballistic arms. Players should target the two bulbous green bubbles located on either side of the BET-C: each bubble comprises one-half of the machine’s boss health bar, and when they’re killed, the BET-C will shut down. From there, players can hack the BET-C and reset its targeting priorities to assist the dwarves in their expedition.

1Glyphid Bulk Detonator

The Glyphid Bulk Detonator is one of the scariest threats players chance running into down in the twisting caverns of Hoxxes IV. These big bad bugs are a unique mutation of the Glyphid family, and their bodies are loaded up with extremely volatile and explosive material. When they get within attack range of any player, they strike the ground, letting loose a massive AoE explosive effect that’ll down anyone unfortunate enough to be caught in the blast. These Glyphids don’t just damage players, either - theyblast away massive chunks of the environment, changing the way players will have to traverse the cave for the rest of the mission.

The Glyphid Bulk Detonator is another enemy with extremely visible weak points. The bulbous yellow sacs adorning its upper body are what carry this bug’s explosive material, and shooting them is the only way to take this enemy down. There are multiple sacs scattered across the front, back, and sides of this Glyphid’s chitin shell, so players will need to work as a team to distract the bug for long enough to destroy all of them - while still being mindful of its volatile payload.

Deep Rock Galacticis available now on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and PC.
