One of the developers working on theDead Spaceremake feels that EA and Motive Studio should forego doing the remakes ofDead Space 2andDead Space 3, and should instead set the stage for a full-fledged sequel to the franchise’s original run. While the future of the IP does still seem somewhat uncertain in regard to which direction it might take, the remake’s success is bound to have gotten the wheels turning.

The newDead Spacegame doesn’t stray too far from the basics set up by its predecessors, it’s worth pointing out. While the 2008 original certainly did age somewhat poorly, bothDead Space 2and3still hold up reasonably well in the gameplay and lore departments. In other words, the developer may well decide to work on an all-newDead Spaceproject, especially now that it’s clear that at least some of EA Motive’s staff feels that way.

Specifically, PCGamesN recently interviewed the composer working on theDead Spaceremake, Trevor Gureckis, who admitted that he’s unaware of any potential futureDead Spaceplans. Gureckis did say, however, that skipping ahead and working on a newDead Space 3sequel would make a lot of sense to him. Many believe thatEA Motive should do moreDead Spacein the future, and Gureckis himself thinks that “pushing [the franchise] forward toDead Space 4would be super fun,” now that the remake has brought the IP back into the mainstream limelight.

While theDead Spaceremake revealed new character detailsand added more depth to their relationships, it’s worth pointing out that none of it breaks existing and established franchise lore. Instead, the developers seem to have taken great care not to disturb what’s been set in stone, which means that the original game’s two sequels may still be considered canon, even now.

Dead Space 3certainly did get plenty of critiques for the various things it changed for the worse compared to its predecessors, and much of it was fair. At the same time,Dead Space 3is better than most believe, and its downer ending fits the lore remarkably well. A potentialDead Space 4by Motive could, perhaps, take the best parts ofDS3and build a more sensible and less MTX-driven experience to truly move the IP forward.

At the same time, some believe thatDead Space 3deserves a remake as well. The game’s crafting system and the implementation of resource farming didn’t sit well with core franchise fans, for example, and Motive has shown already that it has what it takes to renewDStitles in the best way possible. Whatever the case may be, it does seem likely that there’s a bright future ahead forDead Spaceat last.

Dead Spaceis available now on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S.
