Dead by Daylightplayers have seen their game get more and more complicated since the game’s release. Gone are the simple days of flashlights and totems; survivors and killers alike have more options than ever to assist in their killing and/or escaping.
A more recent addition is the game’sspecial items. Noteworthy for their unique borders and the fact that they can’t be permanently added to players' inventories, newer killers have made use of these items to provide fun and varied gameplay. Killers don’t get to have all the fun, though, as some perks allow survivors tocreate their own special items.

Players may havenoticed new achievementsthat require them to make use of special items.‘Kitted Out’asks them to pick up and use 35 special items as a survivor, while’Disarm and Dismember’asks gamers to play as a killer and hit 50 survivors who are holding a special item.
Special items are rarely seen in an average match ofDead by Daylightas they are limited to certain killers or maps. There are exceptions, butany item with a striped borderthat players cannot escape with is considered a ‘special item.’

Lament Configuration
Despite bringing misery to everyone who touches it, survivors are encouraged to solve theHellraiserfranchise’s infamous puzzle box. This will put an end to the constantly spawning chains that terrorize them and their teammates.
First Aid Spray
Fans of theResident Evilfranchise will recognize this unassuming canister from a mile away. Despite being used for full heals in their original games, First Aid Sprays inDead by Daylightare only used tocure Uroborosand will not actively heal a survivor. The First Aid Spray is arguably one of the better items to attempt theDisarm and Dismember achievementwith, as Wesker is notified when a spray is being used and has the ability to move quickly toward the survivor using it.
Vaccine
Another staple of theResident Evilfranchise, vaccines are often used to save the day in the nick of time. They maintain this role inDead by Daylight, curing any and all T-virus contamination. Vaccines were one of the first special items to be added to the game!
VHS Tape
Survivors unlucky enough to face the Onryo will likely see their demise come sooner than seven days. VHS Tapes can help or hinder a survivor if they aren’t used strategically.
Flash Grenade
It’s safe to say thatResident Evilfans have plenty of representation when it comes to limited items. Unlike many others, this fan-favorite item from theResident Evil 2andResident Evil 3remakes can be used by any survivor who has broughtthe Flashbang perk.

EMP
It’s only fitting thatDead by Daylight’s first robotic killer would have to deal with annoying technology interference; perhaps they should try turning themselves off and back on again.
Pocket Mirror & Fragile Mirror
One of the game’s more obscure special items, these mirrors are tied to one of the Archives’ many challenges. When players take on the’Glyph Caretaker’challenge, they must complete a series of tasks to ultimately be rewarded with a tantalizing25,000 blood points. Thankfully, there’s no ‘redirect a beam of light using various mirrors’ puzzle.
Remote Flame Turret
Dead by Daylight’s newest special item accompanies a unique killer, and while it isn’t lethal, gamers can partially fulfill their dream of killing a Xenomorph with fire. It’s one of the more complicated special items in the game, despite appearing to be simple.
