A couple of days ago, CD Projekt Red announced that its upcoming sci-fi RPG gameCyberpunk 2077, will get aspin-off physical card game calledCyberpunk 2077 - Afterlife. Now, the studio clarified that unlikeThe Witcher 3’s Gwent, the upcoming title will not include aNetrunnercard game in-game.

The recent announcement is in response to rumors that surfaced recently, claiming thatCyberpunk 2077will also get a card game within the game. CD Projekt Red’s Rafal Jacki debunked the speculation on Reddit saying, “Sorry all but we are not doingNetrunnerin any way - I’m a fan of the game myself but we decided to create something new and stand-alone.”

The rumors started as early as last year whenAndroid: Netrunner, a card-game published by Fantasy Flight Games from 2012-2018, was unexpectedly discontinued. Given the thematic connections betweenCyberpunkandNetrunner, many assumed that CD Projekt Red will be including aNetrunnercard game withinCyberpunk 2077.

Although the studio confirmed that there are no current plans to include a card game within the sci-fi RPG, CD Projekt Red is already developing the physical card game calledAfterlifewith board game publisher Cmon.Afterlifewill put players in the role of Fixers, who are tasked to recruit cyberpunks to smuggle goods and information. The Fixers will also be responsible for equipping cyberpunks with the necessary tools and weapons and send them out on missions.

Meanwhile, CD Projekt Red announced previously thatCyberpunk 2077will borrow a cool idea fromThe Witcherfranchise. More specifically, the upcoming game will have its own version ofThe Witcher 3’spopular concert Priscilla. While no details were revealed, the studio said that the concert would be much bigger and grander than the one inThe Witcher.

It’s an interesting thought that event thoughCyberpunk 2077is still in development, CD Projekt Red is already thinking of other mediums the game can branch out to. Given thatThe Witcherfranchise already has a TV show in the works, it is not unlikely forCyberpunk 2077to have a movieor a TV series of its own sometime in the future.

Cyberpunk 2077will be released on June 06, 2025, for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
