Summary
The Zombies mode inCall of Duty: Modern Warfare 3will introduce a devastating new Wonder Weapon called The Scorcher. This deadly piece of equipment was unveiled as part of the latest Call of Duty Next event, which also premieredtheModern Warfare 3multiplayer trailer.
First included in the 2008Call of Duty: World at War, the Zombies mode soon turned into a series staple, appearing in nearly every franchise entry ever since. Its next rendition is scheduled to debut on November 10 as part of the upcomingModern Warfare 2sequel. And while the fandom’s expectations for this mode naturally exhibit great variety, manyCall of Duty: Modern Warfare 3Zombies wish listsare in agreement on one thing: the game needs more Wonder Weapons.
It would appear that the developers concur with that assessment, having just unveiled The Scorcher, a newCall of DutyZombies Wonder Weaponthat’s set to debut inModern Warfare 3. Behind that ominous moniker is a giant laser cannon that shoots purple blasts of energy which effectively burn through undead hordes, disintegrating them upon impact. That devastating power comes at the expense of a fairly slow rate of fire. The brief video demonstration of the weapon shared during Call of Duty Next suggests that The Scorcher will take around two seconds to charge up.
The spread of the new Wonder Weapon’s blast also appears to be fairly narrow, indicating that The Scorcher will require careful positioning and aiming, requiringModern Warfare 3players to remain patient while waiting for enemies to line up for maximum impact. In case that’s not an option because the player is facing an overwhelming horde, this futuristic gun’s alternate fire mode provides an excellent backup plan, allowing its wielder to launch themselves sky-high and fly away to relative safety by utilizing their wingsuit.
While Wonder Weapons were historically tied to specific Zombies maps, that won’t be the case with The Scorcher, or any other such special piece of equipment in the upcoming game. Namely,Modern Warfare 3Zombies will scrap round-based levelsin favor of an open world divided into three different threat zones, similar toBlack Ops Cold War’s Outbreak. The mode itself will repurpose Urzikstan, a newWarzonemap scheduled to reach the battle royale game in mid-December. However,Modern Warfare 3will already feature Zombies at launch, thus offering an early look at the new map.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3launches November 10 for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
