In a recently released video, developers from Infinity Ward discuss the next game in theCall of Dutyseries, and claim that it will innovate as much asCall of Duty 4.
With a new game in the series released every single year since 2005, theCall of Dutyfranchise has been criticized by some for not innovating enough from one game to the next. However, a video released by Infinity Ward, the developers of the rumoredCall of Duty: Infinite Warfare, features studio team members promising major changes for the next game in the blockbuster franchise.
According to various Infinity Ward team members, the supposedCall of Duty: Infinite Warfarewill bring a level of innovation to the franchise that hasn’t been seen sinceCall of Duty 4: Modern Warfare. This is quite the lofty claim, asCall of Duty 4changed the face of online multiplayer and remains one of themost highly regarded entries in the series.
As for specifics, one developer claimed that the next game in the series - it’s worth noting theInfinite Warfaremonikeris technically just a rumor at this point - will bring a “new level of storytelling” toCall of Duty. Another said that he would like the next entry in theCall of Dutyseries to have characters play the role of a leader, possibly insinuating that the new game will followBlack Ops III’s example of ditching the “follow me” icon.

That same developer, Infinity Ward narrative director Taylor Kurosaki, also said he wants players to be faced with tough decisions in the campaign, and have to live with the consequences of those decisions. Players have been able to make plot-altering choices in pastCall of Dutytitles, but from the sound of things, the new game will have a bigger focus on decision making than the titles that preceded it.
As for what the plot itself will be about, that is still mostly a mystery. It’s been teased in the past thatCall of Duty: Infinite Warfarewill feature Ghost, a fan-favorite character fromModern Warfare 2, and other rumors point to thenextCall of Dutybeing set in space. Whether or not these rumors have any truth behind them remains to be seen, but with a livestream reveal for the newCall of Dutyset for May 2nd at 10:30AM Pacific, it seems like we won’t have to wait long for some concrete information.
While we wait for the livestream, it is clear in the video that the folks at Infinity Ward are passionate about their work, and hopefully that translates to a high quality game. Infinity Ward’s most recent outing,Call of Duty: Ghosts, is the lowest rated main series entry in the franchise to date, so it would be nice to see the studio bounce back withInfinite Warfare, or whatever it ends up being called.
Call of Duty: Infinite Warfareis rumored for release on November 4th on unspecified platforms.
