Although Bungie was hoping to giveDestiny 2PvP players one of their most requested features with the return of the Rumble mode, many felt this new version was disappointing. Frompoor spawn mechanics to an overcrowded feel, Rumble’s return toDestiny 2was met with more criticism than enthusiasm.

Now that Rumble has rotated out of the weekly Crucible playlist (replaced byMayhem), Bungie can address player feedback and tweak the mode to meet player expectations. Specifically, Bungie plans to lower the player count to 6 and improve the spawning algorithms, so players don’t find themselves immediately under fire after respawning.

In its weekly blog update, Bungie says that the benefit of having a rotating crucible playlist is that it allows the developers to change modes while out of the rotation. The Crucible team took in feedback regarding Rumble and has made some changes. Now when Rumble returns toDestiny 2– which should be in two weeks – then players can see how the lower player count and improved spawning works.

Rumble came to Destiny 2 in a big way, and depending on your tastes, you may have found ittoobig. We tend to agree, so the next time Rumble rolls around, you’ll find a bit more room to breathe. We’re lowering the player-count to 6, and altering the spawning policy behind the scenes in an attempt to keep players more evenly spaced out. These changes are the first steps towards an even better player experience that we expect to drop when Season 3 begins.

Next weekDestiny 2is launching a new and improved version of Iron Banner that will feature the control game mode. Bungie has increased the player count to 12 for Iron Banner control and removed the auto capturing of A and B at the start of a match.

The increased player count should lead to more chaos and it will interesting to see if the same criticisms surrounding Rumble will pop up again when Iron Banner begins. All of the PvP maps were designed with the 4v4 approach in mind, so an extra 4 players is sure to lead to more gunfights and chaos, but also more instances of getting flanked and shot in the back. It’s also possible that spawn trapping will become an issue, but players will have to wait and see.

If nothing else, the changes to Rumble are a positive sign, as they show Bungie is willing to make changes immediately based on player feedback. At this point, the studio knows that it needs to win back players and the only way to do so is to make improvements and have anopen dialogue with the community.

Destiny 2is available now for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
