Gaming journalists at E3 2016 discover screenshots and release window information for the unannouncedBulletstorm Remasteron the Microsoft press USB.
We learned last month thatGears of War: JudgmentandBulletstormdeveloperPeople Can Fly is working on two new games. It looks like one of those games has been outed asBulletstorm Remaster, and the game was apparently set for a reveal during Microsoft’s E3 2016 press conference, but must have been pulled from the proceedings at the last second.
This assumption is based on the fact that there areBulletstorm Remasterfiles readily available on the Xbox press asset USB sticks Microsoft handed out to journalists at E3. The USB sticks contain multiple screenshots ofBulletstorm Remaster, which shows off the title’s improved graphics over its predecessor, and reveals a release window of spring 2017. So far, the only confirmed platform forBulletstorm Remasteris Xbox One, but one has to imagine that the game will make its way to PC and PlayStation 4 at some point in the future as well.
Since thefirstBulletstormwasn’t a financial success, some may question why People Can Fly would move forward with a remaster. As it turns out, the game developed somewhat of a cult following in the years since its release, thanks to its over-the-top action and satirical take on the first-person shooter genre. Moreover,Bullestormis one of the onlyPeople Can Fly IPswith any name recognition, so it makes sense for the developer to try to bring it to the current-generation of consoles.
WithBulletstormbecoming more popular in the years since its release, perhaps a remaster could give People Can Fly the funds necessary to move forward with a proper sequel. To that end, sinceBulletstorm Remasterwas apparently going to be part ofMicrosoft’s E3 2016 press conference, maybe Microsoft has invested some cash in the game to obtain it as an exclusive for PC and Xbox One.
While gamers wait for People Can Fly or Microsoft to give the game a proper unveiling, the question remains whyBulletstormwas pulled from the show to begin with. It’s possible that Microsoft simply did not have enough room during its presentation to dedicate time to a remaster of an older game, and instead wanted to focus on new experiences like therecently announcedDead Rising 4or the upcomingGears of War 4.
There’s no doubt thatBulletstorm Remasteris on the way, but at this point, it’s unclear when Microsoft or People Can Fly will give it a proper reveal. Maybe the game will be shown at Gamescom in August, or alternatively, it could be unveiled with a random trailer drop at any given day in the coming months. Regardless, it will be interesting to see ifBulletstorm Remasteris able to outdo the original’s sales and get the franchise back on track.
Bulletstorm Remasterwill be available in spring 2017 for Xbox One, and possibly other platforms as well.
