Summary
Each Companion inBaldur’s Gate 3has their own unique questline, which the player can experience if they play as their character. Wyll the Warlock is one of these Companions, and he’s alsoavailable as an Origin characterfor players who want a more immersive look at his story.
Some of the best weapons for Wyll are attainablethrough his Companion quest, but others are easily found with shopkeepers, as rewards for completing quests, or looted from enemies and other secret locations. Recommendations are based on default Wyll and don’t apply if he takes certain Feats or is multi-classed. Being Human, his race gives him access to certain skills and weapons that aren’t normally available to spellcasters.
Updated Jul 01, 2025, by Kristy Ambrose:Although Larian Studios won’t be making a sequel or DLC, updates and bug fixes are ongoing, which means the game can still evolve, and new items can show up for Wyll and his fellow Warlocks. This is a versatile class that can use a variety of weapons depending on the build, including Feats and the choice of subclass. If they wish, players can make Wyll a pure magic user, a melee caster with some physical weapon power, or everything in between.

High Spellcasting, Melee Caster, and the ability to cast Planar Ally: Cambion
Not every player finds theInfernal Rapier, because it’s hidden behind a DC 14 Persuasion check after a specific line of dialogue. During the concluding scenes of Act 2, Wyll is sent onanother task for Mizora, this time into the Illithid Colony to free one of Zariel’s trapped minions.
It’s eventually revealed that Mizora herself is the one who needs freeing, and the dialogue choices are slightly different if Wyll is in the party. Players will have the option to ask about a reward, and this is when the Persuasion check happens. It’s better if Wyll does this unless the protagonist also has a high Charisma score.
High Spellcasting gives Wyll a +1 bonus to his spell save DC, and Melee Caster uses his Dexterity modifier to determine the amount of damage done as opposed to Strength. The extra spell allows him to summon a cambion to do his bidding, which is nice for any character, but perfect for a Warlock.
Bludgeoning damage
The ability to cast Melf’s Acid Arrow and the Arcane Enchantment ability
Anything that gives a Warlock extra spells is always a better weapon, andseveral staves inBG3offer their wielder extra abilities, either in the form of extra spell slots or the ability to cast a spell.Melf’s First Staffhas the usual abilities of a basic, versatile weapon, plus it grants Wyll the ability to cast Melf’s Acid Arrow once every Long rest.
Arcane Enchantment gives the wielder of this staff a +1 to spell attack rolls and spell save DC, which is great for any character. It’s easily purchased from Borg, the articulate hobgoblin who is also a proud member of the House of Brilliance. He’s currently studying mushrooms in the Myconid Colony.
Kereska’s Favour, Arcane Battery, and Arcane Enchantment
There are very few weapons or armor of Legendary quality inBG3, and the ones that do exist are difficult to find.Markoheshkirisn’t held by a powerful boss or assembled in a secret forge; instead, it’s kept in a highly secure vault on the top of the tower that houses Sorcerer’s Sundries.
The staff does decent bludgeoning damage, but the abilities granted by equipping the staff are the real strength here.Arcane Enchantmentgives +1 to spell save DC and attack rolls, andArcane Batterylets Wyll cast a spell without expending a slot. Finally,Kereska’s Favourgives him the power to choose an element and unlock certain spells and abilities connected to said element.
There are a couple of different ways to access the vault, but they all require a lot of sneaking, trap finding and disarming, and lever pulling. The staff is kept under a dome of energy that has to be deactivated, plus there’s another trap to disarm in order to pick it up. Other treasures locked in other parts of the vault include the Annals of Karsus and more.
Slashing damage
Commander’s Strike, Stirring Execution
Normally Wyll doesn’t have Proficiency with longswords; however, he can gain this skill through the Bind Pact Weapon Warlock ability. The player can alsouse a Feat to give Wyll better weapon skills, but that depends on the type of build, and the investment of an extra Feat might be a better choice for a melee fighter.
The +2 Charisma boost makes Wyll a better spellcaster, but that isn’t the only nice thing aboutDuke Ravengard’s Longsword. Wyll can use Commander’s Strike to compel an ally to strike an enemy using a Bonus Action during their next turn, and Stirring Action gives temporary hit points to nearby allies when Wyll uses the sword to kill an enemy.
Overall, this is more of a Paladin’s weapon, but since Wyll is also a righteous character fighting for good, it still works. If the player doesn’t want tokill the Duke to get it, they can also use theCommandspell on him in camp and get him to drop it.
Piercing, 1d6 + 2 + Dexterity
The ability to cast Haste, Resistance to Fire, and Cold damage
Most of Wyll’s character and class builds focus on his spellcasting and melee roles, but for those who want to make him a ranged fighter with a weapon to back him up, an ideal choice is theDarkfire Shortbow. The resistances are great, especially for a Warlock limited to light armor, and the extra spell is yet another bonus.
Hasteis one of the most useful spells in the game, and every caster should get it if they can. It gives a character double their movement speed, an extra +2 to AC, and an extra Action per turn. Haste isa level 3 transmutation spell, and Wyll can use it on himself and one other friendly target.
Elegant Duelist, Withering Cut, Challenge to Duel
Not everyone takes the same path when it comes to dealing with Ethel the Hag. If the party killed her in Act 1 and rescued Mayrina, they can find the Hag Support Group in Baldur’s Gate, and help them kill the Hag permanently this time.
One of the Hag’s victims that needs help is Varna, a young girl that Ethel has “swallowed” and plans to give birth to as a new Hag. There’s a twist to saving her, but if the heroes manage it, one of the rewards is theDuellist’s Prerogative.
The bonus Necrotic damageis just one reason this is a great weapon for Wyll. Elegant Duelist means that rolling a 19 for a hit in combat also counts as a 20, Withering Cut is used to deal a reaction against an enemy, and Challenge to Duel compels an enemy to attack the user.
Piercing damage
Hellstalker and Scorching Ray
Players don’t have to fight orkill Yurgir when they meet him in Act 2; they can instead do a quest to help him escape from his deal with Raphael. However, if they take this path, they won’t have access to theHellfire Hand Crossbow. There’s also the connection Yurgir has to Astarion’s questline, so if Wyll is hoping to romance the vampire spawn, he needs to kill the Orthon anyway, and the reward is this very rare crossbow.
Players can either fight Yurgir so he drops it or talk him into killing himself and loot it from his corpse. From there, equip it in Wyll’s main or off-hand, depending on the build. A warlock with an emphasis on ranged damage can add to that with the Hellfire Hand crossbow, and should the player find another one,they’re small enough to dual-wield, providing another distinct advantage.
Another nice feature is Hellstalker, which adds fire damage if Wyll uses the crossbow while Invisible or sneaking.Scorching Raygives him the power to cast the level 3 spell of the same name once per Long Rest, and extra spells for any caster are always an advantage.
Undead Bane
Only players who are the most thorough and meticulous will discover this magical rapier, locked in a wooden chest hidden under a mound of dirt behind an obscure basement door in Cazador’s Dungeon.Pelorsun Bladeis one of thebest weapons available for Wyllor any Warlock, or for a Bard, so it’s worth exploring a bit to find it.
From the Waypoint in the basement, players should go to the second door on the right and jump down to the floor below. There’s a door here that leads into another room with a small dirt mound. In that mound of dirt is a wooden chest that contains this sword, so players should make sure that someone in the party has a shovel.
Named for Pelor, the god of the sun, this sword was hidden underneath a vampire’s house for a reason. Undead Bane gives the wielder of this blade Advantage on attack rolls when fighting any undead creature. Grabbing it on the way to fight Cazador, whose lair is just down the hall, can be a huge help.
Arcane Enchantment and Caitiff’s Restoration
Even if players don’t plan onvisiting the House of Hope, it’s highly recommended that they stop by just to see Helsik’s inventory. She has theCaitiff Stafffor sale, and the party doesn’t have to do her any favors to buy it.
Wyll doesn’t have a shield proficiency, so it’s safe to say that he’ll be wielding this staff two-handed. Arcane Enchantment gives him a +1 bonus to spell save DC and spell attack rolls, and Caitiff’s Restoration restores one empty Warlock spell slot.

Mellow Harmony
If Jaheira survived the Shadow-cursed Landsand joined the camp in Act 3, she might lead the player to Danthelon’s Dancing Axe as part of her Companion quest. Even if she doesn’t, players can still stop by and take a look at Danthelon’s wares, and one thing that’s for sale is theHarmonic Dueller. The advantage of coming in without a Harper is that the shopkeep is considerably more polite.
The special ability that is granted by this rapier, Mellow Harmonry, sounds like something for a Bard. However, it’s related to the character’s Charisma modifier, so it’s just as useful for a Warlock. If Wyll can pass a DC 15 Performance check, he does even more damage with his melee attacks according to his Charisma modifier.
