Summary

TheBattlefieldgames always do an amazing job at delivering a chaotic and engaging massive multiplayer experience for players to enjoy. The gigantic maps, vehicle combat, and staggering number of players in one match all make the multiplayer side ofBattlefielda ton of fun to jump into, but just like anypopular FPS game, it needs a few different modes to prevent the matches from ever becoming dull or repetitive.

Thankfully,Battlefield 5is packed full of multiplayer game modes to choose from, and while some are a little forgettable and unpopular, others take full advantage of the game’s maps and gameplay mechanics. Not only does the game carry forward a few fan-favorite modes fromBattlefield 1, but it also introduced a few of its own, providing plenty of variety. But which modes are considered the best of them all?

1Team Deathmatch

TDM In Battlefield 5 Is Simple, Casual, And A Ton Of Fun

Team Deathmatch may be a mode that is often more associated withCall of DutythanBattlefield, but the fast pace and excellent map design ofBattlefield 5allows it to work extremely well. Since the only objective is to simply kill as many enemy soldiers as possible, it can actually be a lot more relaxing and casual than some of the other modes, and it’s the perfect mode for experimenting with different gadgets, and for leveling up weapons.

Because of the squad mechanic, it also means players can get into the thick of the fight right away without having to run all the way from spawn, which can be a real lifesaver on maps like Narvik and Fjell 652. The one downside toTeam Deathmatchis that it doesn’t encourage players to use different classes to complement one another, since players are always moving around the map and dying much quicker. For example, the Support’s ammunition packs won’t count for much, since no one will be staying at one point for the entire game, so while it’s a lot of fun in small bursts, TDM still doesn’t perfectly fit in with theBattlefieldDNA.

2Firestorm

Battlefield’s Take On The Battle Royale Genre Does Just Enough To Stand Out

Battlefield 5’s take on abattle royale mode, Firestorm, is a bit of a mixed bag, but it’s still very fun overall. Halvøy is the map used for Firestorm, and it’s by far the biggest map ever seen in the series. On one hand, this is great since it allows players to have enough space between one another to find their equipment and gear before getting shot at, but it can also sometimes lead to a lot of running around aimlessly just to find someone.

There’s still a lot here to differentiate Firestorm from other battle royales though, such as the staggering number of vehicles that can be found on the map, and the small objectives that can reward players with special loot to aid in their survival. It’s a shame that DICE didn’t continue updating Firestorm as, while it’s already very enjoyable, it could have been improved just a little more to become something truly special.

Just as the name implies, Squad Conquest is simply a smaller version of its counterpart which pits two teams of 8 against one another as opposed to a full 64-player match. Luckily, the mode is limited to only a few maps, which ensures thatthe gameplay is always fast-paced, and it results in an extremely fun and quite intense mode that rewards skilled players.

In the much bigger multiplayer modes, it’s all too easy for someone toget sniped from a mile away, get blown up by a grenade, or even just get trampled on by a tank that seemingly came out of nowhere, but these random occurrences are far less likely in Squad Conquest. Therefore, it makes the gunfights feel a lot more personal and skill-based, and can really favor those players who want to test their experience in a more intimate setting. Nevertheless, this can make it a little tricky for newer players since the lobbies are usually filled with high-level veterans.

4Grand Operations

Battlefield 5 Is At Its Most Immersive During The Grand Operations Battles

Operations were by far the most popular and beloved mode fromBattlefield 1, and while it’s a little less enjoyable this time around, it still provides a truly intense and strategic massive multiplayer experience that is great for those longer play sessions. The mode takes place over four fictional days, with the battles focusing on actual events that transpired throughout theSecond World War. Each Operation contains several maps and game modes that help to keep players engaged from beginning to end, and when both teams start edging closer to victory, it can lead to some immersive and chaotic battles.

There’s even a Final Stand optional mode which will activate if both teams end the match in a draw. In one final ditch effort, each player will only have a single life and must scavenge supplies and weapons to try and keep themselves alive while also taking down the enemy for good. Similar toBattlefield 1, the only real drawback of Grand Operations is that it can go on for a very long time, sometimes over an hour if the teams are of a similar skill level, but this can either be a good or bad thing depending on who is asked.

5Conquest

The Faster Movement And Plethora Of Vehicles Bring Conquest To Life In Battlefield 5

Conquest has always been the go-to game mode forBattlefield, and while it might seem simple in how it plays, the class system and large number of players in a single match add an extraordinary amount of strategy to each game. The mode hasn’t really been changed from its previous iterations. Players will still be tasked with taking control of flags to earn points and grant a new spawn for their team, but the maps help to bring this mode to life inBattlefield 5.

The majority of the maps feature crucial chokepoints that are essential for getting through to a flag, such as the entrance to the subway in Operation Underground or the small icy avenues in Fjell 652, and it’s these areas where the most carnage will commence during a match. This mode also allowsevery single class to be fully usable, since they all play a part in securing and defending flags, and if a squad manages to have all four classes at once, they can become pretty unstoppable. This is one of the best games in the series for playing Conquest, especially with the faster movement system which keeps the action alive from the beginning of a match, right until the end.

6Breakthrough

Breakthrough Is Without A Doubt One Of The Most Chaotic And Enjoyable Modes Of The Last Few Games

While Breakthrough was still fairly popular inBattlefield 1, it found its stride in the game that came after, with it still being one of the most popular modes in the game because ofhow action-packed and exciting it is. As mentioned previously, a big part of objective game modes is holding down a chokepoint to prevent the other team from getting in, but this is what the Breakthrough mode is entirely based around, being a fierce battle for supremacy where every player has an important role to play.

This means that there is never any downtime when playing Breakthrough, since the game will always spawn the players close to the objective, negating one of the main issues people have had withBattlefield’smultiplayer in the past. Despite the mode being a lot smaller and more focused, it still allows 64 players to get stuck into the action, so it’s easy to imagine just how chaotic some of the gunfights can get. What also makes Breakthrough a particular standout is that it can be played both casually, but also strategically, which means anyone can get involved in the fun.
