Avengers: The Kang Dynastyis rumored to be heading in a new direction after losing an important team member. While the future of Jonathan Majors' Kang is in question, the person reportedly leaving the Marvel Studios' project is writer Jeff Loveness.
Avengers: The Kang Dynastyis set to be the fifth movie featuring the eponymous superhero team, who will face off against Majors' Kang the Conqueror. A version of Kang was introduced inAnt-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, penned by Loveness before he wastapped to writeAvengers: The Kang Dynasty.

However, The Ankler reporter and Below the Line editor Jeff Sneider has heard Loveness is no longer writingAvengers: The Kang Dynasty. According to Sneider, Loveness' departure has nothing to do withthe ongoing writers' strike, as he exitedAvengers: The Kang Dynastybefore the labor dispute. During an appearance onThe Hot Mic, Sneider clarified that this news was unconfirmed. However, according to his sources, “It sounds like they’re going in another direction.”
While a precise reason for Loveness' departure fromAvengers: Kang Dynastywas not provided, perhaps the response toAnt-Man and the Wasp: Quantumaniaplayed a role.Ant-Man 3was a box office loserfor Marvel Studios, grossing a worldwide total of $476 million that fell short of the roughly $600 million needed for the film to break even. The critical response toAnt-Man 3was equally harsh. While Jonathan Majors' performance as Kang was well-received, the script and CGI were heavily criticized.
If rumors of Loveness' exit are true,Avengers: The Kang Dynastymight have been hit with aproduction setback similar toBlade. Marvel Studios would need to find a new writer to pen theAvengers: The Kang Dynastyscript, but whoever is chosen wouldn’t be able to work on the screenplay until the 2023 writers' strike is over. While one could assume the strike won’t last long, the 2007-2008 writers' strike lasted over three months.
Several projects could be delayed if the 2023 writers' strike lasts as long. As a result, theAvengers: The Kang Dynastyrelease date could change. However, as Sneider said, Loveness' exit remains unconfirmed, so fans must wait to see what happens.
Avengers: The Kang Dynastyis currently scheduled to be released in theaters on August 02, 2025.
